[SPOILERS] Novice's nominal nonchalance

News of the turn: Someone has a GNP of 22 and I'm damned if I can quite figure out how - everyone's working a 3/0/x tile (ie Nicolae switched, probably to the Oasis) & I think that'd need to be 3/0/4 if you've a tech selected with 1 pre-req to get to a GNP of 22. I'm probably missing something obvious You posted a sandbox earlier, didn't you? I'll have to have a play around with that this evening see if I can figure it out empirically. It's probably Seven coz he switched tech this turn, could also be Nicolae who switched tiles this turn. Edit: novice solved it, see below.
Seven is obviously on a new tech, and given there's only 1 other person with a GNP <20 which is probably Serdoa still, then I think Seven is doing a tech with a pre-req, and it's probably AH (other options would be BW, Masonry or one of the religions). -------- Summary of First 10 Turns Everyone settled in place. Aren't mirrors nice? Seven Cities: 1 @ size 1 Army: none Workforce: none Techs: Agri, Mining, Myst Met: Serdoa? Nicolae Cities: 1 @ size 1 Army: none Workforce: none Techs: Agri, Wheel Met: Serdoa? mackoti (only it's not mackoti any more) Cities: 1 @ size 1 Army: none Workforce: 1 worker Techs: Agri, Wheel Serdoa Cities: 1 @ size 1 Army: none Workforce: 1 worker Techs: Agri, AH, Wheel Met: Seven or Nicolae

Breakdown of Seven's GNP:
8 palace commerce 1 city center 1 free beaker 3 from oasis Researching AH that gives 13*1.2 = 15 Plus 2 culture and 4 EP = 21. However, if Serdoa's scout has found Seven, he gets a 1.26 modifier on AH, and that would bring his GNP to 22. Does that fit?
I have to run.
Yep. Thanks
Means I've screwed up the calculation on my spreadsheet somewhere tho, rounding at the wrong point in the calculation I suspect. Edit: Yeah, that was the problem, fixed now. Edit 2: It could be either Seven or Nicolae that Serdoa has met, can't tell at the mo.

Except, according to this page that I was using as a reference I was right first time:
13 beakers * 1.2 for a pre-req = 15.6 FLOOR that = 15 15 * 1.06 for having met one civ = 15.9 FLOOR that = 15. What you said solves more than this one conundrum though so I think you're more likely to be right than the resource I was using. I'll have to test it (later, coz I should be doing something else during the day today ).

I'm pretty sure I'm right that the multipliers are added together before multiplication and rounding, I think I've seen this before.
Here's the sandbox, if you want to do some empirical testing. It could be Seven and Nico who have met, but it seems unlikely since they've just had 12 scout turns combined so far, and they're located 16 tiles apart.

Which is completely different to that civfanatics article Moral of the story is don't believe what you read on the internet, I guess Thanks for the sandbox, I probably will test it sometime for my own peace of mind novice Wrote:It could be Seven and Nico who have met, but it seems unlikely since they've just had 12 scout turns combined so far, and they're located 16 tiles apart. Nah, it's got to be Serdoa (he's the only one who's finished AH apart from you) and someone Fin to get the 22. I just can't disambiguate Seven vs Nicolae till when Nicolae would finish AH.

Yeah, the known civs bonus is additive with the prerequisite discount. I think Waterbat spent a lot of time reverse engineering that, and I think the ISDG C&D spreadsheet formula got it correct.
Thanks, kjn
