[SPOILERS] Hashoosh goes for a Carribean (von Alder) Creutz

Haha, don't sweat it, I haven't been posting very regularly either. I'll try and do an update if I get the save in the next 5 hours, but that doesn't seem likely at our turn pace.

I'm probably retiring from this as I can't make the mod work and so won't be opening the saves. It's weird since I got the latest version working. I found out I wasn't supposed to put it into the mygames-directory. Maybe it's the building info change?

I`ll let the pictures do the talking. I think we`re doing fairly well, but I feel that we`ve reached a bit of a crossroads. The map is set up into what appears to be 10 valleys, 5 starting ones and 5 ones constituting no man`s land. There`s a ring of ice, which Dhal explored to the very edge of the map (traded maps). It appears that there isn`t anything out there except for the marble and stone visible at the start.

I think to win this we`ll have to claim the lion`s share of land in between one or both of our neighbours. BaII is definitely expanding rapidly, moreso than Dhalphir. I think that means we focus our city expansion on claiming strong spots in our border valley, while sending a few settlers west to shore up that front in case Dhal pulls a fast one on us.

I just finished AH, revealing horses and allowing us to settle for Ivory or Fur, both of which are withing range. If we get sailing we can settle on that PH ivory off the coast, or we could delay that.

The second city is a monster btw. Plains cow, grass copper, coast fish and a wet rice. twirl Great things will come from this.

Oh darn. frown I know I havent been too great of a reporter, but I hope I can convince you to stay on.

For the tech problem; the mod goes into the steam\steamapps\sid meier's beyond the sword\beyond the sword\mods

I wouldn't try running it with any graphical mods just in case that's the issue.

I believe we also had to edit an .ini file, I'll search the tech thread for that.

Well, if you provide screenshots I can comment the game although inability to check the saves will make it bit harder. I'll try to make the mod work but can't promise anything. I didn't buy civ4 from steam so the location for the mod is different, I tried putting it into program files but didn't help. The most recent version of rbmod worked though huh.

Orange Pekoe: what is the workboat for? Circumnavigation? And why is the forest tile worked rather than fp cottage? Also that's quite early library for my tastes in the city. Is the idea to get first GS from here or just for some beakers? I think the city is not best suited for a GP farm really, it's more of a prod/commerce site and GP farm should have high food and less good tiles.

E.Breakfast: Is the plan to whip the settler? As the granary is in place I suggest that. I question the library build, it's not a building to put into every city, at least this early. This city could be a good site for GP farming at some point.

In the capital I'd rather see a cottage tile worked than the plainhill mine. That could be taken from Athens which isn't working it's cottages. Again the library build? I think for this early one library should be enough and it probably should be in site which will create the first GS. I'd rather see a settler or worker build.

Overall I see a lot of libraries being built and maybe too little settlers. I think that in this phase of the game heavier focus should be on expansion and units and less on infrastructure. 7 workers for 4 cities seem ok and you've done a good job improving the important tiles. Also granaries in every city is goodnod.

So the plan here is to expand fast while teching economical teches to help the expansion, right? The next tech targets could be math then either currency for economy or calendar for happiness (and MoM). Currency opens also the possibility to get CoL for religion although I doubt we can be fast enough to get it. Maybe if we prioritize it enough...

One thing we might try would be sailing->alpha to enable trade routes early and then trying to get gpt or resources for OB from civs that delayed alpha.

What are the next city sites? Quickly checking the corn-sheep site in the east seems strongest as it has strong food. But the settler is being built in the western part of the empire. Generally it's ideal to build settlers close towards the planned city site. I'll comment the dotmap later.

And one thing about the slider: I do favor the binary research to avoid losing beakers and getting full benefit from known tech bonuses and research modifiers, do you have a different policy?

Is the issue with the mod that the folder you installed Civ IV into is 'protected' preventing you from copying the files into the destination?

I was able to replace the xml part Krill told us to replace. But the mod doesn't work: if I try to start a sp game I first see an empty tech screen like this:

And then it's like this:

Edit: I tried to uninstall BUG mod. Now single player works but when I tried to load the save file for this game it said "Failed to uncompress game data".

Hey, I have subing for Hashoosh for a while and seems you are hs dedlurker/teamate some imput of what to do would be great.

I agree with you mostly, there were somethings in-game that I would change but the again this isn't really my game so I didn't wanted to do anything drastic.

Here are some pictures:

I change the Lib build for a settler. The worker 2E would chop to speed the settler one turn.
The worker 1E has a 1t in a road. I let him finish the road this turn and the move to a forest to chop. This way I can get 1t worker after the settler. Although to be honest not is this is correct. There are to many improvemetns tile and the happy cap won't increase for a while, still I guess more workers can hurt.

I also have changed the workboat for a phalanx. I think the workboat is for scouting the midldle of the map which seems to be some kinda of island, but I feel we need units if we are going to expand. I know there are not barbs but still an oportunistic attack from a chariot could really hurt. I change the fish for the mine. I may looks crazy but everything is already a happy cap and there is already Unhappines for whip. So I can't really whip or let cities grow.

Athens is now working the gold because it wasn't before. I also finish a cottage in the FP. I personally would have farmed the FP but Hashoosh has already put 2t into a cottage.

I don't know where to send the settler though. The spot with sheep and corn would start really slow and is kinda fa away.

I have no idea where to put this settler. Definitely need help here. What do you think of the dotmap? I would settle different but I don't want to do anything bad.

I have selected math as the next tech for flexibility sake. There wasn't any solid tech path discucion so I'm saving money right now. We would get maths in 9t yet settling the cities most likey would delay this a couple of turns.

I don't know much about the other players. Ball (red) has 4 cities and has a much better GNP than us. Also better production.
Dall (brown?) has 3 cities and is worst in every category. The only reason for this would be some kind of early conflict I gues.

Stonehedge was completed this turn. Oracle a couple turns back. I don't know who are the owners. Maybe gavagai?

Should I try to get an GS from Orange pekoe after a couple of phalanx?

The spot 3E of E.Breakfast should be 1S, I think. That would be a fast spot as it could immediately take the pigs from E.Breakfast which couldn't use all its resources after whip anyway. That site would have 2 new food resources in the first ring and 2 others in the second ring (although not sure if they count as food resourceslol) and forests for granary chop. Maybe that should be the next site.

GS in orange? That's probably good now that we have the library there. Maybe try to settle the cow site N of orange first so it can take copper mine while orange is GP farming. Also before getting the GS we probably should bank gold, the question is how much?

And the techpath. Well I posted some opinions earlier. I'm thinking alpha for the trade routes, problem is how to get other pay for it. Resources? I'm not sure if we could get any happy resource even if they had them and health isn't really worth it.

Update? For this game? Why Hashoosh haven't come back? Today should I eat rice or not? contemplate

A save every five days can't get more relax than that!

Without resources

With resources

I need more workers, at least 3-4 more, but is hard to remember things with the saves coming so far apart.
I have the most cities at 9. Ball has 7 the rest 6 I think.
Nobody has hok up his horses, which is odd.
Nobody has Currency neither, so the economy isn't so bad.
GJ has the most score, mostly because he have taken all the cheap religion techs. He is in HR and has a ton of happy resources which explains why he lead in food.

Tentative plan is make more workers, make more settlers crash the economy, tech Alpha build research, tech currency, build cash, get CoL to take advantage of SPI get a high happy cap and open caste.
Then tech calendar for more happy, settle marble go for MoM.

Demos

Anyone has any questions? The next update when I get the save next week!
