So the fitful stop/start gives us just enough time for this last one:
Commodore (vengeful, comical) as Ramesses (Spiritual, Industrious) of Rome ([], Mining, Praetorian, Forum)
Upon Xenu's green earth, there is no worse nor better player than I, inevitably both extremes always seen in a single game. It's a lot of fun to watch I'm sure, if heartbreaking to those few who make the mistake of rooting for me. I'm here piloting a very challenging, high risk/reward leader in Rammer, which frankly is probably a mistake. Plus Rome, which is definitely one.
Spiritual is the ultimate “active” trait; nothing else changes the game so fundamentally (Creative is probably second in “changing gameplay” but in Cre's case that's just “getting rid of an aspect of gameplay”). For all that, you don't swap civics willy-nilly as Spiritual just for the heck of it, you generally have to have a reason to swap from what we sensibly consider the “default” civic set. I'll detail more thinking on the matter when we get there, but for now, just assume it means I also really want a religion early on...which does dovetail nicely with Industrious' early focus on the Oracle line. Rome is going to be a fairly flavorful null here; I'll enjoy the forum the one or two times I notice it at all, and praetorians are going to make my neighbors nervous as much as contribute to the defense.
I expect to make a fairly fast but expensive start; I actually doubt I'll fall behind far on the expansion race but that's going to come at the price of more whips and chops than my rivals weave in. I am going to try really bloody hard to head towards the Mackoti-approved hammer economy as early as is feasible, with cheap forges hopefully masking those aforementioned costs. This is a game I can win, but I need to avoid spectacularly screwing the pooch (can do) while also making decisive positive steps towards victory. Old reputation aside I really am often just content to builder my cheery little way forward into the meat of the game; this field is too good to just bumble along like that. Unfortunately, that's also something that map/game/neighbors will determine, so right now its just going to be all about building the best early game empire I can. Wish me luck.
