Nope, we grow to size 3 in 2 turns and we get BW in 5. I started another warrior. 2nd deer improved next turn.

Turn 24

Where's copper?

I think this justifies going for the rice city. Where do we want it though? I see 4 good options and I marked them.

I think 2 is a pretty good option, gets both copper and rice first ring and can share some cottages with the capital.

3 makes a really good future heroic epic spot but it's a little too far for more ways than one.

We are size 4 now, and I did set tech to Agriculture. Comments?

If we want to settle north of the lake tile and I think site 4 would be better than site 3 because faster start up from PH and safer being on the hill with the city a tad bit far away from the capital. I think site 1 would be superior to site 2 in the long term because it opens up an extra river grassland tile. And we do get free border pops so the copper would be under cultural control very soon. Although there would be a 10 turn delay on the border pop so I think site 2 would be superior if we feel threatned by anything.

I like site 2 better because we get the copper first ring. It takes 3 turns to improve the rice then we can get the copper into play after that, 7 turns sooner than waiting for a border pop. Otherwise we are look at turn ~45 without strategic resources. Against this crowd, it's probably better to play it safe. 1 riverside grassland won't lose us the game, but a delay on copper could.

North of the lake takes too many worker turn imo.

You said we had about 263 tile of land per player. I think that provides enough of a cushion to delay the copper by a couple of turns.

I think the ability to work a 7-yield tile 10 turns sooner is very valuable. Besides it's not just other players we have to worry about, we have to think about Emperor level barbs too.
