More food resources are always nice to see. ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) And marble could be useful at some point as well.
A bit more exploration around the marble might reveal something that would make for a good city there, in which case you might want to keep your original corn city with the lake. Will have to wait and see what you find.

I got in two more turns. Fishing is in, Pottery next. I scouted around the marble and found Charriu's borders.
Claiming a spot east of Corn City should be high priority now. Actually getting the marble in range might be pushing it. Charriu has less power than me, but a lead in production, so that could turn around quickly. Below is a collection of graphs.

Rival borders! Yes, getting control of the region would be useful as long as you can actually keep it.

I whipped the settler for 2 pop. I'll finish the warrior that I put 2 turns into before the settler, and then build a work boat.
I still haven't made up my mind about the precise spot for my second city.
"danger zone?": If I understand the vision rules correctly, borders will only be visible to Charriu once they expand (or he scouts the area again). Not sure though. I still worry that it could provoke a wasteful buildup of units. The food situation is not very good. I'd send the work boat from the capitol asap to improve the crabs.
"need border pop": Can still grab the marble, but doesn't have any hills in the first ring. Initially only has crabs for food (and would also get a work boat), but has corn in the 2nd ring. Borders can expand once before being visible to Charriu without scouting. (?)
"max food": What it says on the tin.
EDIT: Rules say that we need to agree on a turn split if we're in a settler race. But how would you know that? And how can you find out without revealing your plans?

Those borders are pretty close.
If you want Corn City and a crab/marble city, then it would have to be needs border pop or danger zone. I think it is safe to assume your borders will be seen very quickly, whichever site you pick.
For a settler race, if you spot a settler while yours is still moving, I think.

You can see culture bleed from a fogged tile if you can see an adjacent tile, e.g. the tile 2E of your warrior in the above screenshot. Even without that, the coast tile SE of Danger Zone would be under your culture, and it's visible from the shore E-SE. (From land you can see two tiles into water.)

This is the most comprehensive run-down I've seen on this site: http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=7311
"In a peace-time turn split (eg a settling or hut-popping race) the turn you realise there should be a split is when the order is established."
So my reading is that you playing before Charriu last turn means you have the right to play first.
I see "you realize there should be a split" as being more general than seeing a settler, but when you realize that one player could gain an advantage by double-moving.

Thanks for the info! But do you suggest I should ask for a turn split?
My warrior in the east has been attacked by the lion that killed my scout and avenged him. Settler is on the move, escorted by my other warrior. I've connected my bronze source and now the in-production warrior has been replaced by a spearman (due in 2 turns). I didn't know that could happen, I thought only techs can obsolete units. About the settling location, I think danger zone has too little food to work all the hills. I still would like that marble, a quarry would be worth 3 gold because of my financial trait.

Auto-upgrades of units in queue can happen with resources, as you just found out. The warrior was obsoleted by the tech Bronze Working, but until you actually had a source of metal spears and axes do not replace warriors.

Well, Charriu already grabbed the marble.
I think I'll go for corn city now, because max food will have to fight over the crabs with Charriu, and Corn City has a lot more lake and coastal tiles. Spearman will be finished next turn, and population at the capital will grow. After that, I'll produce a work boat for the crabs at the capital, and then a builder.
Score tracking: It's hard for me to make sense of what's happening now. shallow_thought also must have whipped last turn.

The farther into the game you go, the harder it becomes to tell specific things from score. You can also look at demographics, plus graphs (if you have them) to figure out some things. But after a while it is more useful at revealing general trends than specific actions.
