Yeah Caitlyn looked awesome on paper, but they really screwed up the implementation of the ideas. The ult is just terrible, even with the boosted damage as it has no utility whatsoever and is only good at picking off fleeing opponents after a fight has already been won; and even then, it can easily be blocked by an enemy teammate. I've seen a lot of instances where her ult was even blocked totally by accident with no harm done. It's just such a silly mechanic for an ultimate. I think it'd have been far more interesting as a long cooldown Q (20 seconds) or something instead where it could be used as harassment and a team really had to decide when and where to try to block it.
This is one of the only instances where I'll admit a champ is simply better than another. When it comes to Caitlyn, you're just better off playing Ashe in every way.

Comparing Caitlyn's ult to Karthus's really brings home how weak it is. In most cases, it doesn't even do as much damage to one champ as Karthus's does to all five enemy champs, plus she has to be in range when she channels it, plus it can be blocked. Now OK, Karthus's ult is one of the best in the game. But even so, there's a massive difference.
Caitlyn is stronger than Ashe in the early laning phase, because her base damage is actually very high at low levels, and she has good range on her hook-type skill. But she doesn't scale anything like as well, and Ashe's ult is miles better (at least, it is in the hands of someone who can aim it )

I agree. I find Caitlyn better at early harrassment. I think Ashe farms better (via the hawk passive), is more useful mid-late game, and has an awesome initiation ult.
One thing about Caitlyn though - she does have some escapability that Ashe lacks. It isn't Trist's escapability, but it's something.

Since MF is free this week I played a game as her, ending up laneing vs ashe. It seems like the best way to harass is to use double up, while for against ashe, standing behind the wave of minions to protect from volley. What I was having trouble with though was getting double-up to hit it's target- what exactly is the targeting system for that second shot? Do you basically have to hope for it to go for the champ or just use it when there's no other target for the shot?

I've played MF a lot and I'm still trying to figure out how exactly Double Up acquires the second target. It can bounce to any target in a 180 degree arc behind the first target, but I think it prefers to go in a straight line first so if there are minions around and the champ is directly across from you or directly behind the minion you hit first, it should hit the player instead of bouncing 45 degrees diagonally to another minion.
It's one of those skills that's impossible to explain, but with practice you get a feel for when it'll hit the champ and when it won't. Also, don't forget you can just shoot the champ with it if you want; it doesn't have to bounce to do damage and it is only 15% extra if you do hit with a bounce, so if you're lining up a kill or finding it hard to harass otherwise, go ahead and target them directly with it.

Well, for those of you who were in the game with me last night where I was playing Sivir, I wanted to explain what happened. We're 50 minutes into a very close game, when all of the power in our neighborhood suddenly blew out. And... it's still out, thanks to the wintry weather this region has been experiencing. Many apologies there, unfortunately there was nothing I could do. (I'm currently stealing Internet off someone who didn't password protect their service, heh.)
I'm guessing we lost that one? Sorry.

Sullla,
We did lose the game, though it was close. No worries - there is always next game. I Hope your connection gets restored soon.
Bad weather has been affecting many in the region. It's snowing pretty heavily in the East Cost right now, I was playing with my brothers and they got disconnected because of power outage right in the middle of the game as well.
Catch you in the next game

I had my first drop with rejoin ever last night during LoL too Sullla We got power back about 1:00pm today. Sucks when your battery backup means you can still see the screen, but can't communicate with anyone because the internet box doesn't have power.
