Mechanics questions since I only play vanilla: does the amphibious promotion on siege only affect river crossings?

How do you plan to defend your galleons from Naval Strikes ? After the first turn, you can be certain that there will be no coin-flip battle in the sea, your ships will almost always fight with 25% of damage from airstrike. Or maybe he will need one more turn to concentrate his airships enough and that's all you'll need ?

Ack, they changed it so siege units can't attack off of ships? Well, we don't really need the cannons in that case, at least not right away. We'll probably want some eventually, for the cities that we can't reach by sea. Not in the first wave of attackers though. I don't remember that change taking place in patches...

Scooter, it looks like we're all still waiting on Dreylin to play. I did write out the worker micro for the turn on our shared Google Docs spreadsheet. My one major comment is that the galleon coming out of Induction Coil this turn has to head north to the Textile Island front. I'll try to log in a bit later today to see if I can suggest anything else. I think that's the one really important thing from a logistics perspective of moving stuff around.

I found it in the patch notes for 3.1.7 here.

Turn played. Report coming later, but here's a couple quick ideas.

Obviously the Cannon won't be able to do a whole lot off the boats, so maybe we should make a swap here. My math says an Infantry won't finish in time even with the chop, but a Privateer would. No drydocks here so all it would get is 2xp, but really it's just there to be eyes at sea rather than a combat unit. Any thoughts on this?

Our control of the Sugar tile jumped from 50% up to 56% this past turn. What about swapping this to a Spy? It would let us walk behind Dreylin's front city and see what's behind it before we attack. The culture build isn't super useful if we expect to capture the neighboring city anyway. The spy could be built in 2T rather than 3T if we wanted by working something other than sugar.

The spy is a bit of a gamble since we could just lose it, but even if we only had it for 2-3T, it might be worth its weight in intel.

Any thoughts on either of these two changes?

Turn 319

Power spike.

Now that I look at this screen, I'm a little confused about that GNP actually. As far as I can tell, REM is building units as quickly as we are, but the top GNP is still through the roof. Not quite sure how he's managing that. Maybe it's Dreylin beelining towards Assembly Line with wealth/research everywhere?

REM did snipe another Donovan city. Dreylin hasn't captured a city in quite some time now.

So here's something to keep in the back of our minds. I think we definitely want to go ahead with our main plans, but if this city is still available around then, we ought to at least consider setting up a wave 2 that comes here. Dreylin has pulled ships away from this area seemingly, and I wonder if he's temporarily giving up on it for fear of REM. Anyway, just thought I'd point this out for future reference. Most likely it won't remain available for long enough, but as-is I'm surprise it's still under Donovan's control.

The buildup continues. I definitely think we should consider ditching Police State in a few turns once we're able. Hardly any of these cities are even benefitting from it.

A couple stray notes:

1) The chop progress on textile island (N-NE of Jenny) was further than expected by worker plan, so we're actually at 2/3 completed plantation rather than 1/3.

2) The boats on both fronts are mostly in defensive-looking positions.

What are REM's soldier numbers like?

Sullla - I went ahead and made both swaps I noted above. The Spy I hired an Engineer for (not working Sugar this turn) which will let us be on track to complete it next turn. That'll give us an extra turn to poke around in Dreylin's land and give us an idea of what's behind that city.

If there's another good reason for a cannon that I didn't think of, we can still complete it next turn in Cotton Gin. The incoming chop with base production is enough to complete either the Privateer or the Cannon next turn.

They're almost the same as ours, just very slightly higher. He's on the power graph that I posted above. [/u]

I was out today for most of the day; I'm also in favor of both swaps. They sound like excellent suggestions to me. thumbsup

I've also wondered how REM's economy has been so good throughout the game. I'm looking forward to reading his thread after this is all done to see how he managed it. Perhaps Organized trait has been pulling more weight than we realized - I honestly don't know.

D'oh, that's what I get for reading a thread when I should be in bed.
