[SPOILERS] JR4 tries his luck in PB 37

Honestly, I also favor getting a Missionary out of Toregene before finishing the Market, although I know the market will be great to have in that city. As you noted, we really want three Jewish Missionaries in short order here. Once we do get that Market, plus Markets in Muqa, Chubei, and Radnashiri, even though they won't reduce our expenses, they'll speed up the gold-saving process nicely.

Another suggestion: Kokejin is working a lot of unimproved tiles (lighthouse coast, mostly). If it could whip a Missionary for Radnashiri, that would help the place a lot. (Assuming we can get a galley into position to carry it.)

I'd also 3-whip Chubei's Settler, especially if that would get the city planted by T110. I really don't like working so many unimproved tiles (and others that are no better than unimproved tiles. The desert hill mine will be - and has been - situationally useful, but it's the equivalent of working a plains hill forest).

Not sure what Dark Savant is doing with those Settlers, but the longer he waits before founding those cities (and the sooner we get culture into ours, especially Radnashiri) the better I'll like it!

In any case, the Khtunate's looking great (regardless of the above) and if HG doesn't fall next turn, we'll at least be better off with it than with just building Wealth, with a growing chance to land the wonder itself with all that it entails! Exciting turns ahead, as always!

Sorry for commenting too late to get any changes in last turn. The things I wrote above still apply this turn, although of course Chubei's Settler might be a 2-pop whip now. I'd start a Lighthouse in Sugabala, but you probably were already planning that....

I should be asleep by now (sighhhhhh ... not for reasons related to this game, so don't worry about that, but I've really been getting to sleep way too late, way too often...) and hopefully will be soonish; have a great day!

Normally, I would still be able to do changes at that time. It was just one of those busy days. The suggested changes make sense to me. We certainly want to get a missionary to Radnashiri asap. Whipping out the settler in Chubei could have been done last turn but it wouldn`t get down to the forest pigs site before the eta of the Hanging Gardens. I need to have a look at Muqa/Chubei to sort out the tile sharing. Sugabala should go Granary - Lighthouse. Toregene is a difficult one. I still think going for the Market first is (slightly) better. There is a forest in its third ring that can speed up a missionary. The worker cutting down the jungle can go there after the current job is done.

As always, playing the turn will call for a few changes of plan. Let`s see when I get to the turn.

TURN 108

Well, the Hanging Gardens still hasn`t been built. We have a chance here. It looks like we can build another city on an island NW of the mainland on t110 but it wouldn`t have any food sources first ring. So that`s a bit sad. Another option is going straight for the gold island. (The settler/archer pair are 2 W of Danashri). Another galley was finished in Oghul Qaimish this turn and could ferry the settler we`re soon finishing in Bulugan over to an island. The settler in Chubei was whipped. We`re looking at a t112 island city there.

I decided to continue the Market in Toregene. It`s such a nice boost to our economy when it`s finished. Obviously, I haven`t forgotten about the need for spreading Judaism. We`re building missionaries right after the Market is done. Muqa took the iron from Chubei. It needs a lot of strong tiles to get the infrastructure done. Oghul Qaimish started a Market that could be whipped soonish. It`s 3 happy for us and gets us a few coins every turn as well.

The copper mine on the extreme west of our mainline was finished. The hammers went to the stone island as I figured it needed the Granary asap. We`ve actually still got a warrior here. Now that Bulugan expanded borders it`s not needed there anymore. Where should we send it?

Graphs and demos: Look at that mfg of ours! We`re getting a ton of production now. If we can get the Hanging Gardens now our demos would look insanely good.

TURN 109

We are now one turn away from getting at least a coin flip chance of landing The Hanging Gardens! It would help us out in a big way, of course.

Gavagai built that awesome 6 food city on the gold island, unfortunately. The question here is - should we fight him for control of the entire island? The archer jumped off the galley (NW) and found nothing of interest. I think we can build a city between the horses and the banana there. It would invalidate the plains hill spot on Gavagai`s side of the island. The map is filling up quickly! We have a settler/axe pair ready for that second galley.

Looking at civstats you could see that four of our cities were whipped this turn! Next turn we`re getting Markets in Oghul Qaimish and Toregene. Our economy needs them badly. Also, a Missionary was whipped in Kokejin and the settler was whipped in Bulugan. Chubei started a Market. I like EXP Markets - they are very cheap.

Also, note that we now have vision on dtay`s port city, FAQ. We`re probably not keeping it forever, but it`s good to have a little bit of extra information on his actions.

Graphs and demos: Our demos took a quite big hit this turn as a lot of population was whipped away. I`m not too concerned as 5 of our cities will regrow next turn and we have a very good chance of landing the Gardens.

Also, it looks like we`re going for a t113 city on the forest pigs, not 112. It`s a long way down there. I`d be really disappointed if we were to lose it because of that..

Turns are flying by now - making up for lost time, I guess! Things are looking great!

I don't want to fight Gavagai at any time if we can help it, but sharing a five-tile island would be hilarious (almost as funny as planting on two different forest pigs, including one on a plains tile) so we should totally do it, even though there might be some conflict over it later on. (No sarcasm here. This map is loony, but it's fun!)

Makes sense. Also consider planting ON the horses; it would get a much faster start, but it would be a worse city in the long term unless there's seafood in the fog E of the pigs, so I'm not sure which I'd choose. (Either way, unloading the Settler onto the tile between the horses and banana would keep our options open.)

Yup! This also means he can't 1-turn Chubei from his territory (or get a slow-mover stack into the banana jungle, but that will hopefully be chopped soon anyway) without a GG (until he reclaims the tile).

Hmmm... Is that an empty Galley in Kokejin? (I can't tell where our other Galley is on this side of the map.) If so, we could do this:

T110: Galley w/Settler+Axe moves 2SE, directly toward Radnashiri. The empty Galley moves 1S to join it. The Settler + Axe then board the Galley that still has 1 movement point remaining. The now-full Galley moves e.g. 1S again, toward the Pig island. The Missionary from Kokejin moves S, boarding the now-empty Galley.
T111: The Galley with the Missionary moves 2SE INTO Radnashiri. The Missionary spreads Buddhism. The other Galley moves to one of the tiles just north of the forest pigs, and the Settler + Axe disembark ONTO the forest pigs.
T112: Found the city.

The turn pace is much better now than the first 60 or so turns. I guess playing a turn per day in a clearly losing position wasn`t much fun. Yuri and Donovan Zoi have a very good play rate. Every now and then I get to play two turns on a single day. This game has been pretty peaceful for a long time now. As the players start to run out of land I expect the turn splits to make sure that the game will slow down a bit.

Yes, the second Galley is indeed in Kokejin. Your plan will speed up the founding of the new city by a turn in addition to spreading Buddhism faster. Sounds good to me!

We need more information before deciding on the exact placement of our soon-to-be island city NW. Building on the horses is clearly an option. We don`t want too many cities working 1 food tiles until we can expand borders. That settler/axe pair right behind could be sent in the direction of the gold island. There is actually also a gold island S of Gavagai`s 6 food island. (It`s been a long time since I`ve posted a screenshot of that area). I didn`t see any borders down there last turn.. We might have to choose between strengthening our hold on the NW area or the SW area. There really aren`t many hills on the islands for protection but we have at least one city on a plains hill already. Also, Gavagai could build on either of these islands before us. Annoyingly, we have to wait for him to play now as we may be in a settler race. Losing another city to turn order would hurt a bit. Actually, losing that very good site NE of Kokejin can turn out to be a blessing in disguise, as Dark Savant had a lot of military to back up his settlement. I think he would have declared war on us if we had built there before him.

TURN 110

Gavagai had a big increase in score this turn. It turns out that he.. did not build The Hanging Gardens! We have a coin flip chance now at worst. It would be pretty bad if we were to lose it now but I`m increasingly confident on landing them.

Our Settler joined the archer on the NW island. No Ottoman forces in sight! I was more than a little worried that Gavagai would have landed a settler on this turn. So, it looks like we`re guaranteed a city on that island. Gavagai could of course attack us there as we only have an Archer to defend it. We`re building an axe in Bulugan to join it. The galley will return home to ferry it over asap. Also, note the work boat that was trying to get past our city.

On the eastern sea I did a (small) mistake. I was under the impression that units are able to walk from one galley to another. Well, no. The t112 city is still on schedule but the Missionary will be a turn late. Live and learn, I guess.

When Muqa`s Library finishes next turn it`s probably time to research at full speed again. It has a point of whip anger that will go away on next turn, right on time as the Hanging Gardens (hopefully) completes in Borte! Kokejin started a Market. Nambui whipped out a Barracks. I`m thinking about building an archer and then head straight for Moai. Oghul Qaimish started a Buddhist missionary but really has a lot of options.
