Graphs and demos: Our crop yield looks a bit worse than a few turns ago but The Gardens will surely fix that. Our mfg will go through the roof if all goes to plan. Let`s see how much our gnp will improve once we turn science on soon.
I'd be inclined to whip Muqa's library this turn if there's time (looking forward to the overflow into the next build) - especially if the whip anger it's about to lose would be its last. (I don't remember for sure.) Either way, it's going to have plenty of happiness once it gets a market out, and it's working at least one unimproved tile right now.
There's another silver lining to the eastern galley situation, on top of learning how transferring units between Galleys works - another case where it's way better to find out when it merely delays a missionary by a turn than it would have been in the midst of a critical offensive or defensive maneuver: Next turn, the Galley can go 1SE, the Missionary can disembark onto the Deer, and the Galley can then start moving towar its next assignment (whatever that may be) since the Missionary will be able to move into Radnashiri and spread Buddhism without any further help from the boat.
Even if we get failgold on the Hanging Gardens, that's 300 gold for 230 (base) hammers at this point, including the Aqueduct, so not bad - though obviously not preferred! I'd almost be tempted to delay it for a turn or two to get a couple more cities down and benefiting from it, but of course that could backfire spectacularly if we lose the Gardens as a result.
Additional request: Could I see another screenshot that includes State of Zijin? Just to see if I can spot a monastery as usual. It's not urgent of course; at this point, I don't think he's going to tech Meditation until he's ready to go for Philosophy, and I don't think he has Construction (for an Odeon) yet.
My sense is that Daliyetimishi just finished its granary and doesn't have a source of culture yet; is that right? If so, since I expect that it will end up growing onto unimproved coast thanks to Hanging Gardens, I think I would start a Monument this turn, and immediately whip it next turn.
In fact ... wait, and we're (probably) about to complete the Hanging Gardens in our capital! This is pretty cool, as there's a trick to the way this Wonder works: City food and production happens city by city, one by one, with all of the consequences applied immediately. Borte gets processed first, so the Hanging Gardens will complete, all of our cities will grow a size, and THEN all the other cities will get their food and production applied with the extra HG pop points already on the board! (Borte also grows, but doesn't benefit from the extra pop until next turn.) The governor will assign the new tile in each city, but can be influenced by the "emphasize production," "emphasize [various kinds of commerce]," and especially "emphasize food" buttons on the city screen (near the whip button). Also of course we can decide which cities will hav which shared tiles available.
Now, I don't think we want to do anything extreme to our city tile arrangements here, partly because it's imaginable that this effect was somehow patched out of RtR, and partly because we might not land the Gardens if someone else completes it at the same time. But there are some things we can do or at least be aware of:
- Muqa, if left to its own devices, will probably grow onto lighthouse coast. I think turning on "emphasize production" would make it grow onto a forest (or the desert mine) instead.
- Toregene could well grow onto the farm. If we want to be sure of this, we could turn on "emphasize food" which (as SevenSpirits once put it) is highly emphatic (about telling the governor what to do). Turning on "emphasize production" would probably make it grow onto a river mine instead. (Hopefully.)
- Oghul Qaimish will probably grow onto its farm, especially if "emphasize food" is on. "Emphasize gold" might make it grow onto lighthouse coast instead, as long as it doesn't have a Market yet. (A Market would create a risk that it might run a Merchant specialist.)
- Chubei is basically in the same situation as Oghul Qaimish, except you might be able to convince it to grow onto the desert hill mine if you (make sure the tile is available to it instead of Muqa and) turn on "emphasize production." I'm not sure exactly how heavily the governor actually prioritizes immediate production over growth though; it's not something I've tested much.
- Nambui will grow onto a lighthouse lake, and there's probably no earthly reason we'd want it to do anything different.
- Kokejin and Radnashiri will obviously grow onto lighthouse coast.
- Bulugan will probably grow onto its forest. I would hope that Emphasize Production would convince it to work the mine instead.
- Sugabala will grow onto a forest.
- Danashri will grow onto ... an unimproved grassland tile. Hrrm. Maybe it can borrow Bulugan's corn for a turn while the workers nearby are working on giving it an actual good tile though.
- I think Babukhan will grow onto one of its forests, but if the only one onto which it can still grow is a plains forest, it might be worth turning on "emphasize production" just to be sure.
- Bayan Khutug will grow onto unimproved coast. I think that's fine, because I think it'll be able to just whip its granary next turn!
- Daliyetimishi will grow onto unimproved coast too, as discussed above.
- I think that's all of 'em!

Thanks! Mapmakers don't tend to get a lot of praise .

There's a chicken-and-egg aspect to this as well. If you're having fun, then you put in the time to think through your moves carefully, plan out future moves, and so on...and you don't end up in a clearly losing position. At least not this early! Skill and experience matter, but effort and care are at least as important.
so does luck, but people don't like to admit that...
Well, I was certainly not aware of that mechanic. Cool! I`m going to trust your instincts here. The Library in Muqa was whipped and now the governors will decide which the extra tiles we`re growing onto. If we only land the Gardens. You`re right that 300 gold is an okay-ish consolation prize but we`d much rather have the wonder.
Also, here is the requested screenshot plus Muqa post-whip.

I`ll just comment on this before finally going to bed. The map is way better than any I`ve played on (but I don`t have any MP experience before this game). From what I have seen so far, no player was without a chance to win the game from turn 0. A good map isn`t supposed to be blatantly unfair but a little unbalancing only adds flavor to the game. Honestly, I didn`t favor the mirrored starts but seeing how close-fought the game is right now makes me think that it`s a good idea.
The second point is a valid one. I certainly wouldn`t have spent more than half an hour on every turn if we were in a clearly losing position. It seems that some of the players are having so much fun that they spend 1.5-2 hours per turn!
According to civstats we had a massive 62 point increase this turn. That was caused by.. The Hanging Gardens! Beautiful. 14 cities got the benefit of an extra population point. Our 15th city, Empress Gi was built this turn. Note the Ottoman galley near Gavagai`s city. Hopefully he won`t complain about a double move here. We would have gotten the city site we wanted even if had landed a settler on this turn. Babakhan switched to a work boat which can be whipped next turn and then we`ll get plenty of overflow to finish the Granary.
EDIT: I just realized that Gavagai could have, say, an axe on his galley. If he had landed on the tile we built the city we certainly wouldn`t attack and would have to retreat or build 1E. Did I mess up here?
The governors did a pretty good job of working the desired tiles. Radnashiri started a Market (one turn before the missionary is spreading Buddhism). Chubei and Muqa are building 2 turns Markets. Borte started another settler. We could build e.g a Temple instead. The axe under training in Bulugan will head out to an island city. Actually, I`m a bit concerned on the safety of Empress Gi, the axe will get out there on t116 iirc. We have a back up axe on the other galley that could go there if an emergency arises.
Nambui started an archer. I guess we could head directly for Moai instead. What do you think? We`re now researching Horseback Riding at 100 % science. Our tech rate is very good right now!
Graphs and demos: The Hanging Gardens catapulted us into top score in gnp, mfg AND crop yield! Not bad. We`re only third in population but that`s still okay.
As the timer is getting low (and just two players haven`t finished turn) I decided to do a few changes.
Nambui`s Moai is just a 16 turn build now so the city is building the wonder instead. We might even finish it sooner with a well timed whip - overflow and the copper mine coming online. It still has two good defensive units and should be good for now. I`d like to have a CG archer there soon, though.
Radnashiri is now building a work boat instead of the Market. We can switch back to the Market next turn when the missionary will spread Buddhism.
Bulugan gave up the corn for the turn. It`ll still grow in 2 turns if it gets the corn next turn. The other city (I just can`t remember the name of it!) will work the mine under construction from next turn on. This will give us an extra food instead of a commerce. A good trade, I`d say.
Also, note that Gavagai`s galley had a look into Empress Gi and turned back. It`s good that he didn`t make a complaint on turn order.
