RBP3 [SPOILERS] Team Nice Shot - Pacal of Carthage

Mr. Nice Guy Wrote:Wolf did battle with warrior, so I decided to sit on the forested hill for a couple of turns and heal up. Worker now due in two turns, then we can start having some real fun.

Also, it appears as though Inca went quechua-first. Last turn they gained two points, and this turn their score went from 30-36. There is now a two-pop city out there, as evidenced in the demographics screen. Considering they took Joao of Inca, they could either go max growth or early rush/choke. I just hope we aren't their neighbors!

Is there any way at this stage of the game to tell if they have met anyone else in-game?

Off the top of my head, not really. If they happen to be researching a tech that the other person knows, that bonus might show up in the GNP numbers (I'm not sure) but even if it did it would be extremely small and hard to notice (or attribute to one team or another).

Since the warrior healed to 2.0/2 health, I decided to give move him this turn as opposed to waiting to heal up to 2/2 health. That only revealed one new tile. I think the next couple turns should see him head S-SE before turning generally west in an attempt to learn more about the south. I'm saving the NW for our first hand-built warrior, so we should know more about it in about 10-12 turns. The goal is to have a strong idea where to plant the first settler within about 15-20 turns, so that we can have everything going in the right direction before he is created.

Here's a map, since I have a way of taking the screenshot but not including it in my posts..

Notice that our first worker is born next turn! smile We still want him to idle on the sheep next turn, right?

And demographics:

Yes, idle on the sheep next turn. Build warrior and switch to working the sheep tile, as I remember (I am going to go make a final micro plan tonight).

Actually, if we wanted to throw off any teams doing C&D, we could delay finishing the worker by a turn (change build to warrior, work the river-sheep and then next turn switch back to the plains forest and a worker).

I wish I wouldn't have hit end turn or else I would have done that. banghead

Lesson learned: on my days off, don't end turn right away.

I'm pretty sure we can still change it even after ending turn. If not, it's not a huge deal (if anyone is putting in the effort to try to run C&D on 16 other teams, they probably deserve to win lol)

Anyway, here is the micro plan through turn 21. At turn 22 we were planning to farm the tile that is now forested over. I ran out of time this weekend to adjust for that, but should be able to find the time to figure it out well before turn 22 wink

T1 – T10: Working Plains forest building worker, tech: agri
T11: Worker 1 complete. Worker 1 moves N, waits 1 turn. City set to work sheep (2f 1h 1c) and build warrior.
T12: Agri in. Tech set to BW. Worker 1 farms sheep.
T16: Warrior 2 done. Farm done. Build set to warrior.
T17: Worker 1 moves 2E to river-grasshill
T20: City grows to size two, works plains forest
T21: Warrior 3 complete. Build set to worker. Worker 1 completes mine. City set to work farmed sheep (3f 1h 1c) and river-grasshill-mine (1f 3h 1c).

If you wind up being able to switch it to warrior and working the river-sheep, let me know and I can quickly change this to reflect that. Either way, I am going to edit my first post in the thread with the finalized worker plan so we have easy reference to it.

I was indeed able to do that smile

I doubt anyone is running a super-strong C&D yet, but anything we can do to make that more difficult will be important. More important is to start that kind of thing early. Later in the game when we know our neighbors we want to give them as much false information as possible. shhh

Is that as sneaky as it sounds? yikes Maybe. I don't think we are crossing any lines.

And thank you for helping me keep the micro plan up to date.

Ok, so here is the micro plan to reflect that:

T1 – T9: Working Plains forest building worker, tech: agri
T10: Switch to warrior. City works sheep (2f 1h 1c).
T11: Switch to worker. City works plains forest (1f 2h).
T12: Agri in. Tech set to BW. Worker 1 complete. Worker 1 moves 1N, farms sheep. City set to work sheep (2f 1h 1c).
T16: Warrior 2 done. Farm done. Build set to warrior.
T17: Worker 1 moves 2E to river-grasshill
T20: City grows to size two, works plains forest
T21: Warrior 3 complete. Build set to worker. Worker 1 completes mine. City set to work farmed sheep (3f 1h 1c) and river-grasshill-mine (1f 3h 1c).

I will post this in my first post of the thread for east reference.

Ummm... Lobo.Thibron was eliminated this turn!

Looking at the turn log, it looks like Krill logged in at 11:39, elminated Lobo.Thibron at 11:42, and then ended his turn at 11:43.

Wow. So Krill continues to earn the reputation as the ruthless killer that he's earned before. I am surprised - the game is afoot. I am also relieved - we weren't Krill's immediate neighbor.

Considering that Lobo settled on T0 and Krill used a one-move warrior for the kill shot, they must have been 10-12 tiles apart max. This assumes that everyone's starting warrior started on the same tile as their settler. So when we start exploring further out, let's look 10-12 tiles in each direction for our neighbors, and think about natural strategic barriers in that range.

I set research to BW, moved the worker 1N and started farming, changed the build to warrior, switched the tile worked to the plains sheep, and moved the exploring warrior 1 SW. He will continue on a generally westward path for the near term.

I haven't ended turn yet but will soon unless there is something I should change.

RIP Lobo.Thibron, we hardly knew ye.

(Do you think Lobo should be used as an alternate in case we lose a player? Can't hurt to have someone jaded against Krill in the game... lol)

Ended turn. I couldn't stand the idea of being last. I do like the idea of playing another turn tonight, though!

Where to move the scouting warrior, though?
*SW-W gives the most tiles revealed right away but takes the warrior off safe ground for a turn.
*S-S stays safe, reveals a lot of tiles as well. Hopefully from there we can take forests/hills to the west staying safe.
or if we want to keep the warrior safe and still scout W, we could always go NW-SW and continue in a generally Southwesterly direction from there. But that seems silly.

What do you think?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't W-SW reveal the same tiles as SW-W? If so, I'd do W-SW.

And I don't see anything we need to change with the turn. Your moves looked spot on.

In regards to the elimination: I'm not sure it says all that much about Krill. If I had the opportunity to eliminate a neighbor with the starting warrior (especially in a game with 17 teams where the diplo ding isn't that great, as you won't meet half the teams for ages) I'd be inclined to take that opportunity.

By the way, have you seen the Email and IT thread recently? The elimination played out in detail there.
