Sorry, the exploration has been so poor and that's usually the only thing worth talking about early on. Lewwyn Wrote:Blue please! I think Building blue and then having it steal corn while you whip the cap down to 2 so it works the deer and the copper is a good idea. Yeah, blue is just too easy to skip. I'm not really thinking of going after either, truthfully. My thought was to expand til we crash and then maybe see if we can grab Mids. But I could be talked into either. Like I said, from what I've seen thus far, ton of water on this map. At that, the standard Oracle -> Colossus play makes a ton of sense. Mardoc Wrote:I'm here, I just don't have much to say. If you want substantive comments from me, you'll have to move back to FFH. There's probably enough interest built up by now if someone were to propose a game 14. I doubt the GLH will generate the same hostility here - this is a weird game in terms of personalities, but generally, I think its used as an effective strawman mostly. Regardless, I think I'd need to be talked into building it. Maybe if I was playing against 3 complete noobs but mackoti is a dangerous player and Commodore is at least quite competent. I don't want to sit around wonder spamming while the others are expanding hard. Re: FFH14 - I'm not quite ready to propose it, but I'd probably sign us up for the next game, given everyone still being around.

Well, looks like White Dot is moving south a spot:

This is just a theory at the moment - but the minimap almost looks like a 'B'. I wonder if the map spells "BOB" or something.

Didn't get a screencap, but the second settler completes next turn with chops. I think I'm inclined to go green first even if its not a great site, because with the fish tile white needs to go 1S which means it will have no food in first ring, and we won't have a way to pop borders for a while yet.
I'm inclined to slow build a worker with the corn tile in Blue when it founds, Green will obviously go WB first. Only real question is whether to whip a worker or settler in the capital after the current settler completes. Leaning worker but I could be persuaded settler, since all of the inital settlements are so close. And I wouldn't be in the slightest surprised, Mardoc. Its already apparent this map bears little resemblance to a typical inland sea.

(Apologies if my questions are dumb - it has been a long time since I played much Civ & I don't think I ever was up to the average standard on RB ) If the map does spell BOB, would that mean a player in each lobe of each B perhaps?

It's totally Bob.
I like White in place so that it can grab the copper if it needs too. Then I think you want another city south of White that grabs the fish. There's no point in trying to settle the fish with either of the fist 2 cities given that it would be a 2nd ring resource. As for wonders. I mean we don't need to go after them but I think they'll be a huge boost whichever route we go. GLH... well both good and bad there. Don't make me make the hard decisions! I think if we do a huge farmer's gambit with no wonders that it could be good. No Oracle and Colossus is fine by me. I think we want to prioritize Astro and don't want to be held back by the colossus. So just scratch Oracle. Maybe we go HG though? huge farmers gambit followed by HG and Pyramids? I could get behind that. GLH though. That's the question I think this map will be boom or bust. I'm betting a couple small islands if any, and a trade embargo. SO yeah I can pass on it if we're making a concerted effort for HG-Mids. Keep in mind Mackoti is playing and might go after Pyramids hard.

pling Wrote:Not 1E, which keeps the corn in first ring? Or is that too far from the capital/too unknown? Actually 1E makes more sense than 1S now that you mention it. I just didn't consider because I'm not a huge fan of settling 2nd ring cities that have no overlap. Ultimately I'd like to have a little more defogged just make sure we're not wasting anything. Another reason to settle the clam site first. Lewwyn Wrote:It's totally Bob. Let's see what the area looks like when the save comes around, but I think I'm inclined to grab the clam site with City 3 which gives us a bit more time to make decisions. I'm also inclined to do a huge farmer's gambit before building any wonders, HG and Mids are really the two with greatest appeal. Obviously GLH, Oracle and Colossus all are nice stuff but I'd rather just have more cities out faster. Finding stone would be huge, though with Bob its just as likely Stone is only located in a barb city in the tundra that's guarded by Barb Mech Infantry.
