Should be back up now, sorry.
I'll call Verizon today. I understand the nature of randomness, but I also understand the nature of it being $^@& inconvenient to have to reset the ONT in my freezing cold garage two weeks in a row.
I'm not sure how much time is left on the timer, but would a pause for slowcheetah be appropriate?

A pause won't be necessary, all I needed to do this turn was move scouting units. However, despite the reinstall the connection problem remains the same. Details I can connect up until the civilisation select screen, but when the time comes to actually enter the game I get bounced with an error message 'We have lost connection to the host'. This could be connected to the apparent dissappearance of my saved games, screenshots (which is why I haven't put any up) etc folders from my computer. This is particularly strange because I can still access the files from civlisation, I just can't view them using windows explorer, and an attempt to make a new 'Saves' folder asks if I want to overwrite the old folder which doesn't appear on screen (pictured) If anyone has any suggestions please let me know, however if a solution to the problem can't be found before the end of next turn (not this current turn the one after) then I suggest either Dazed or Elkan steps in as a replacement so that the game doesn't stall.
Were you doing anything special when this started happening?
Sounds like a virus or soemthing if random stuff is disappearing.
In Soviet Russia, Civilization Micros You!
"Right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must." “I have never understood why it is "greed" to want to keep the money you have earned but not greed to want to take somebody else's money.”
I wonder if your folders are there but are now hidden. Press ALT to bring up the file menu, go to Tools | Folder Options, then click on the View tab. You should see a radio button that says something like "Show hidden files, folders, and drives." Select that option and click OK. Do you see the saves folder now?
If you do see it, you may want to check your permissions to that folder -- which version of Windows are you running -- home or professional?. If it's home you may not be able to check permissions unless you go to safe mode (is that Win 7 or Vista?) If you're running a professional version, right-click on the folder if it's there and check the security tab. Make sure your username has access to the folder and files inside. When you reinstalled the program did you do an uninstall first or did you have Steam validate and redownload the files instead? Cheers spacetyrantxenu ![]() I have now played and ended turn, and will start a virus scan and hopefully catch the irritating file hider. slowcheetah Wrote:The folders were 'hidden', no idea why, but making them visible again appears to have fixed the problem. Cheers spacetyrantxenuGlad to hear it. My partner and I had something similar happen about a year ago, where folders were hidden from view and replaced by suspicious looking executables. Traced it to the flash drive we'd transferred photos to on our holiday... had picked up a network virus from a public computer at one of the holiday parks we stayed at. Lesson learned - now we never plug anything into a public computer, we just buy bigger memory sticks instead. ![]()
Civstats.com looks to be down again, so whoever is last to play their turn should post here when the new turn starts.
