RBP8 IT and Tech Issues Thread

So, scooter and I went over a few things without fixing the issue: The mod is in the right place and contains the assets, and ini. files. My custom assets have not been altered. I can start and play single player RB mod games. I can download and play single player RB games started by someone else. I am loading the mod before I try to to enter the game.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I get to the select civ screen fine, pick Merohoc of Arabia, enter in the password, have the password accepted, wait a little bit while the game data is transferred, then pop onto a black BTS screen (like everything is fog of war) for a tenth of a second before I get a flash of an in-game pop-up that mentions something like "this folder has protected assets." BTS then shuts down, sending me to the desktop (which can cause errors for everyone else, too, I believe). Civstats says I logged on then off again.

Anyways, I'm not sure what the problem is, since I have been, in the past, able to log into the demogame fine.

this sounds like the exact same problem slowcheetah had. go back a page in this thread and try what he did to fix it.

Sadly, that didn't work.

I would try the same advice I offered earlier - make sure you don't have the mod folder nested inside itself, make sure it's installed to the exact correct directory, etc. Pop on chat if you want and I'd be happy to try to help trouble-shoot.

I am also having this issue.

When the game first came up before the restart I installed RB mod. Then I loaded Civ, loaded the mod, and logged into the pitboss. It worked perfectly. The reload came, Bigger played teh first turn. I went to play turn 2. I loaded civ4, I loaded the mod, then I logged into the pitboss, selected civ, password, it began to load then it went black gave one second of moddified assests error and civ4 crashed to desktop. I attempted 4 more times. On the 4th time I loaded a SP game played 20 turns, then i exitied that game and entered pitboss only to crash in the same manner as before. So then I went back to the mods folder, it was installed correctly. I then deleted the RB Mod, reextracted it from the zip and replaced it exactly as it was before. Then I tried pitboss again. It worked! I think somehow my RBMod folder was corrupted by connecting to the fist version of the game and replacing it fixed it or something. I haven't tried to log in again since this last time. Still I think this must be considered an issue with connecting to Pitboss.

Merovech, literally the only difference I could find between my installation and yours is you used Krill's link that had the old ini file in it. This shouldn't be an issue, but in case it is, try deleting it all completely and downloading from my link instead: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/5826112/PB8/mod...02.0.2.zip

I will try that-hopefully it works.

I used Krill's link for 2.02 (on the rb mod thread in civ discussion) and have had no problems, I doubt thats it frown.

Didn't work frown I deleted (then deleted out of my recycle bin) the old file, downloaded the new one, and got the exact same problem. It's something about "protected files"

Maybe you should share a screenshot of your current file structure.

Another thought. Merovech - have you ever gotten any error messages while joining the demogame? I know you said you can get in, but I'm curious if you get any mismatching file warnings or anything.

Also, can you try installing the Spanish mod and joining the ISDG? I'm curious if that works for you. That should narrow down if it's a problem with RB Mod installation specifically or if it's a problem with your setup that prevents you from joining Pitboss games with mods.
