Tech Thread - EitB XXVI

My recommendation on map/settings (I'm still not playing, justt rying to get a default setting up for people to discuss):
* Random Barb spawns if you're auto generating the map. Otherwise place smartly and somewhat randomly. Roaming Goblins are fun! And Sareln isn't here to get choked!
* Summonable Civ, a new player should join the game. But the summoner still gets the choice at summoning to take control. Not sure how this works in MP.
* For a Green game I'd still block Keeyln and Stasis since it can devolve to very unfun states rather quickly.

I don't have the time (read: inclination) to gather settings (I pretty much always post from phone, and formatting/copy and pasting is a bitch).

I will be randomly rolling the map.
As preferences have steered away from mirrorland, it'll be a full_of_resources customized one (like a lakes map with more water/hills or something of that sort), with hand editing for the sorts of things that happen in erebuscontinent.
As mentioned before this will NOT be balanced, I will attempt to boost immediate starts and stop any place from sucking to bad, but I'm not a balanced so come prepared.
I will not be pre placing barbs. :'(

I'm okay with an unbalanced map, since I'm expecting to play an unbalanced game. :P

We have, what, 5-6 players? I lost track. That's Standard size at least, right? I don't really want to be terribly cramped in my first EitB MP game. I've gathered that expansion is slow, yes, but it'd be nice to have a little more breathing room to allow everyone to make some mistakes.

I don't know what you mean by double events.

Also, and I apologize for bringing this up again, but I don't think any consensus was ever reached: Are we allowed e-mail diplomacy or not?

I for one think it would be a great deal of fun.

Haven't checked in a few days. Looks like there is a lot of interest. Awesome. I would like to do a game where there is diplomacy, but no city gifting or tech trading. Other than that, double events and animals could be fun.

Like I said, full diplo okay by me.
I probably agree about the no tech trading - heard about these 'trading block' things and how they can be unfun. Probably even more with how FFH makes you to specialize in the tech tree. If I suck at my tech and get outplayed by my opponent, I should get overrun for it and learn to play for next game.rolleye

I recommend going for double events (doubles all random events like free gold, mutations, minor terraforming, population loss/growth events, etc.)

The reason is that normal events unbalance the game too much in my opinion - a couple random events in your favor and a couple against an opponent can really shift the game. When only a few events occur it's really common for them to shift the game quite a bit. Making them more frequent evens them out - everyone will get a little good and a little bad fairly reliably, so it all trends closer towards probability and reliability.
