...I just thought this tip was kind of funny. We know, Sid, that's not the point of this SG though.

Pretty quiet turnset, particularly after a surprise archer on a road ate our warrior in Spain. Isabella hates us forever now, by the way, while Hammy also dislikes us and won't trade any of his juicy new techs. A lot of peaceful development is good, but we need to grow horizontally too, it's not like we've got great long-term vertical options. Medina finished its granary, so I set it to a settler. I favor the settler to an inland spot to chop out Oracle, but I'm open to other suggestions. A two-pop whip when feasible, please.

The last turn of the set, teched IW, and...

This is huge. This means we can pump a fair few axes and spears in the capital, probably on a 3-5-3 whip cycle overflowing/growing into the GLH. However, again, we desperately need more cities, so I won't pitch a fit if it's more settler(s) first.

why settler in medina and not the capital?

rushing tgl is great and all, but I think we'll NEED both tgl and pyramids to win this. little concerned we won't get the pyramids. there's a good pyramid city just SE of our capital, iirc the city between medina and capital is weaker.

ok and I have to bow to you for moving the settler south, which seemed pointless to me at the time. that works out great hehe. I was a little concerned we'd have to make due with only camels until gunpowder.

edit: we got a forest spread N of the capital too? yay

And the opening settler shift pays off hugely. thumbsup

1000 BC...isn't it rather late to still be thinking about the Oracle? Or are my expectations way off from being used to playing much higher difficulties?

oh i missed that.

Probably your expectations are off, it is noble after all. I would prefer pyramids greatly to the oracle, though.

I decided to research alphabet just enough to trade for it so that we could take advantage of cheap trading opportunities to pick up techs we will want. Sitting Bull wound up trading us alphabet for IW, and then I was able to do these trades:

I then started on currency as trade routes will help us economically keep up as we expand, but there's not much invested yet. I'd say another choice is to quickly go after the great library, as building that in our capital could be very helpful.

We are prepared to settle a city that can chop out the oracle:

I strongly think the oracle should be used on metal casting. Almost all of our commerce is going to come from coasts (well besides GLH commerce) and getting those 50% more will be extremely important. The city we settle there will obviously be crap after the chops, but if we want oracle might be worth otherwise empty land.

Also, can we please stop needlessly pissing off AIs by stupidly declaring war on them just to randomly wander our warrior around inside their land? With the GLH we will need willing trading partners and having more AIs to tech trade with is always nice. We're already planning a war with one of the AIs on our continent. Needlessly pissing off the other AI just to wander a warrior around in their lands is stupid.
