[SPOILERS] HitAnyKey's Thread for the Jumbled Masses of Crap within his Brain

Turn 58 played, as requested--pictures are here, but here's a summary:
  • Scout moved SE-SW onto the forest grassland hill
  • Axe moved NW-NE
  • Madrid swapped from the library to a settler like I discussed above
  • I dropped research to 80%, which is about break-even--Math takes 14 more turns.
  • I took some pictures in preparation for possibly dotmapping some new city sites, though I looked and I see what you mean about there not being obvious good city sites, though Stonehenge changes the placement strategy like Creative would have--considering I'm just now learning non-creative placement strategies in PB18, I haven't focused on how instant culture changes that equation yet.

Thanks. Was just about to log in to play, but good to know I don't need to. I'll just take care of my PB18 turn.
Crazy what the scout found....a city spot that could have both Stone & Marble? That's like...unheard of... LOL
I do certainly agree with the getting a settler out asap. We need to expand...where to...that's the unknown part. smile
On the research thing...do you ever do the binary research? Do you find keeping things at breakeven more often than not works more in your favor than binary? I haven't had enough experience to decide yet, myself. I often tend to do binary. Go 100% for as long as I can. Do a turn or two of 0%. Then back to 100%. not sure if that is better or worse than going 80% straight through.

Probably should move the scout back NW-W next turn, and fogbust that land to our SW. Determine if we should consider settling that way. Either that or we settle to the SE. I think that land to the E & NE can wait awhile. It's basically locked in as being ours, so we can backfill that later.

Binary doesn't really save you any research (maybe a beaker every once in a while; Civ actually saves decimals now, unlike early in Vanilla), but the main reason to use it is to so you can change your mind on what you want to research, or if you want to disguise what you're going for from someone who has research visibility on you, or if you're building research/gold modifiers in the near future (or obtaining them from other people researching stuff). In this case, I assumed since you were at a non-sustainable 100% already,

So I'm playing this upcoming turn as well?

I'm home now, so will be playing the turn shortly.
And I didn't realize the game now saves the decimal places. I kept thinking the rounded beakers were lost. Shows you how much attention I've paid to the details over the years. smile

Okay--we're the last to play, so I would have played if I hadn't have seen your post smile

So after taking a quick look, I'm thinking our best next city spot is the one by the coppers. It'll have a decent tile sharing capability with the capital, and have some nice tiles of it's own. Maybe the city after that can go somewhere on the western side of that lake.

And of course after moving the Axe further north last turn, I'm now having to turn it around to send it back south...because of that barb that showed up. So he's gonna go down there and kill it. And also will be the city guard for whatever next city we make.

This past turn we apparently met wetbandit, but I never saw any unit of his so I don't know where he came from. I've now directed EPs at him to get demographics. I think I'm a turn behind, as he already has 4 EP into me.

So I'm going to be settling the city on the marked spot in another turn. The next settler will be out sometime in the next 6 or 7 turns. I'm thinking of sending it SW of the capital, but if you have any other thoughts, let me know. I did just finally find my only source of horses that way...but it's a LOOOONG ways off. frown I'll post a screenshot in a little bit.

I don't know--it just seems like there are a lot of bad options :/

I'm still here, it's just there isn't much to say :/

Yeah, tell me about it. But first in today's news.....

Seven settled a city right up against the mountains and tossed a handful of workers and archers onto the hill near me. My spear was on that hill keeping a lookout before the city was founded which pushed him back onto my mine. Why Seven went straight for sending stuff onto that hill I don't know...hopefully it's not to make a pathway for an army. Since I don't think I could survive that. I left my spear fortified on my mine for the time being.

EDIT: Bah! I don't know why my screenshots keep randomly removing the interface. I had my cursor over that hill showing he had 3 (or was it 4) archers and 3 workers on it. And 1 archer in the city, is what I saw.

As for my settling options, it's messy.

I either go NE of my capital to "backfill" and also put more cities up near Seven for building defenses....and now even sure where I would put it. Is 1S of the Cow (such that it also has access to the Sheep) the best spot? I don't know.
Or I go SW. And the SW options are weird too. I'd almost like to make one on the tile 1N of the Corn such that ships can pass through it into the lake. But I'm almost thinking the hill 1W of that is better, since it'd then have access to the Crab and Plains/Forest/Mine tile.
And then those Horses are just ugly far away.

Also, if you couldn't tell from the first screenshot into the second...I 2-pop whipped the Library out of Barcelona. Barracks is next. The Axe out of Madrid will head towards whatever direction I/we decide on for the next city. And the next Settler will be coming out about 5 turns after that. Then I'll need to do another Worker or two from one or two cities. Also tempted to make a Missionary out of Madrid as well, since religion just isn't spreading on it's own to Seville, and with Seven settling right against it I want it pushing out as much culture as it can to ensure I don't lose that mine.
