Aren't they all going to rush OH? shifty

Realtalk: I took it to be some sort of pre-t100 major war to the death, which I would slide him in somewhere below the big 4. YMMV noidea

Yeah, it used to be the Neighbour Attack and Conquest Outcome Rating, but I don't think I'm going to get many openings for conquest here so its more of a defensive scale. I see anyone going for early warfare just knocking themselves and their target out of contention. Pindicator and I are probably the biggest targets, but only because everyone else is so paranoid/maniacal.

First pass is here if you can figure it out:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...sp=sharing

TLDR:
- Mining eot6
- Worker eot9
- BW eot20
- Settler eot23
- 2nd worker eot27
- Hunting eot28
- grow eot30
- warrior eot31

We'll have two roads towards the second city if its to the south, only one if its to the north. No warriors until t31 *shouldn't* be a problem.

If TBSJoey and Commotay teams actually have 2 committed players I would consider their chances slightly better than mackoti's. Interesting thought. Its likely for Commotay as they've worked well before and have complementary skills. TBSGJ haven't teamed up before (unless you want to count pb18 - zing!) and I think one of them will end up taking over or they'll miscommunicate somehow and have a row.

Anyway, more news from t0 - Commotay and Mack settled 5 land tiles each while everyone else but REM (who hasn't played yet) moved their settlers.

Anyone got suggestions for scout movements? I'm torn between sw-sw and se-sw.

I also like sw-sw.

Anything, really.

Turn 1

SW-SW reveals a desolate coastline. I think I'll circle anti-clockwise to reveal potential sites for cities to share wheat or sheep. The highlighted tile looks like it gets four floodplains and shares the wheat, so it may be a good place to move the capital to at some point since TheSwedishChef is likely to be a hammer-city rather than a commerce city.

Although this post by Krill suggests you should spread CRE cities as far as possible, forget overlap and use them to grab lots of resources quickly. Anyone got any thoughts on how to get the most out of CRE?

Something I wrote for PB24

Quote:I learnt this recently: to really use CRE without cheap libs well, you have to focus on the changing your dotmap and play style to grab as many resources with each city as possible. You have to be greedy, none of this overlapping BFC crap to share food resources. You be greedy and grab every food resource possible...just don't ignore cottages and defense to do so. I think CRE is perhaps the easiest of the early game traits to use OK, but the hardest to use perfectly, because you have to understand the long term implications of your dot map with minimal information. It's a trait that relies much more on macro skill than micro.

I don't think that CRE is all that weak, not to the extent that base BtS PRO is. The issues with it are that it is somewhat boring and there aren't many tuning levers to use. I do believe that +1 culture and cheap libs makes the trait generally stronger but it's a very front loaded trait (like IMP). I think that returning RtR to that is probably necessary.

Redesigns of the colosseum and theatre may be enough though. For example, the integration of the colosseum into the HE build path gives it some relevance to the game, but it would need another effect to be so valuable in terms of trait buffs. The theatre though, I don't see any real way to buff it other than how it will be in SMEG mod (Delete Drama, move Theatre forward, give it incense happy doubler, put GT at Lit). I believe if those were done (with the colosseum buff being essentially whatever the community deemed enough that wasn't completely insane) then CRE would be fine at +2 culture/turn and no cheap libs.

The question is, which is preferred?

Krill's comment on CRE is a good one. One should question his/hers complete playstyle/approach instead of considering just immediate dot map implications.

Do you get cheap libraries in this version of the mod? If yes, it makes early academy a more viable and interesting play. Unfortunately at least your capital does not really look like a beatiful bureaucracy monster.. Maybe an early key bulb? Although I can't think of anything particularly amazing..
