[Spoilers] BOBABOD!

Given how obscure & erudite the theme will be, I can only recommend we name our leader Psychopompus.

That's awesome. I renamed our Capital Anubis, though I'm not sure if it's the best option. I need to remember to rename the civ too.

Sorry for the recent lack of updates. Here's what happened. On turn 4, when I needed to decide what to research, I got home and quickly played and ended the turn, since there was only I and Molach left to play. I chose Agri for the research, thinking "let's go with whatever". But I was waiting for some friends to arrive and decided to kill time by simming, since I had found what would probably be our second city.

It seemed pretty good. Share a lot of tiles with Cap, gets a brand new six food resource, basically what we want for a decent second city.

I played a bit with opening straight mining -> BW (mining the sheep), then hunting for the pigs. This gave me a turn 31 second city, already revolted to slavery. After that, I tried Agri, hunting, mining -> BW, which gave a turn 32 settler, with still no revolt. The first plan was faster, but I didn't like the overall development. The second one was a bit slower and seemed wasteful, but at least we had our food.

I was basically decided to just go with the agri plan and forget about it. But then it dawned on me, what about hunting, mining -> BW. Could it work? I tried it and it felt really nice, we would lose a worker turn, but we'd get a turn 31 second city, only one chop, nice improvements. It seemed to fit and I felt a connection to that sim. I redone it once more to be certain that it was indeed the sim for me. And it was...

So, I opened civstats to see if Molach had already played, just in time to see a lurker finishing his turn for him... I had lost my dear sim, and it broke my heart... frown

I was depressed after that and wanted to avoid the game. To add insult to injury, every food resource we have in our vicinity is a hunting resource. Agri basically means +2 on the wheat, and that's all. As you can see here:

Again, how can I let things like this affect me so much? It's hard to understand, but it is there. But I battled to regain my strength and here I am, reporting once more. And a lesson was learned: I should now better that I shouldn't know better (i.e. don't sim, stupid).

Anyway, I decided to divise a crazy plan, to forget about careful created plans that could be. The crazy plan is to settle here:

And found a religion on the city, giving us a three food resource + gold second city. And there's quite easy backfill spots to fill the gap later. This is probably not the best move, but at least it seems fun. What do you think, Bob? Feel free to bash, there's a decent amount of fantasy in this recollection of how the game is being played, so don't worry about hurting my feelings. lol

By the way, that land north seems like an island. Sailing could be interesting to get reasonably early, for the Moby Dick and an island city.

Finally, Anubis:

I actually really like that settling plan! It's probably not optimal, but as the Gods of PB32 have clearly demonstrated, to tryhard is to fail. Although I wouldn't stress the beakers going into Agriculture overmuch anyway; it doesn't sound like it makes a huge difference, plus I figure we'll also be farming the deer.

I assume religion is doable tech-wise?

Our land is really nice, although seeing all those rivers is perversely painful given FIN.

I assume we'll eventually put a backfill / filler city 4N of the gold? One nice thing about a religion border pop is a 4N of gold city will be able to work a sheep immediately, so we could actually slot it in relatively early if we're surrounded by jungle.

Chin up, Ichabod. There are lots of great sims out there and one day you'll find the right one for you! heart

Btw, given that the Settler will have to cross some potentially hostile territory on the way to the expansion site, don't forget to do some Settler scouting before moving out, to watch for barbs.

That would easily be a -2 hit to Ichabod's casual ranking, not sure it's worth it.

The much contested farming techniques start being put to use...

In a nice troll, we found another farming resource, the infamous jungled-dry-rice.

The land seems really nice, though. We'll need a lot of worker turns, perhaps even making serfdom a decent option (not sure how serfdom works in this version, I think it's not the +1 hammers to mine from 3.0.0.4).

Ahem, I'm back!

Sorry Bob.

Pretty pictures to make up for it:

We did it! A turn later, due to a very unlucky forest growth in the Capital blocking the settler movement. Not sure if that was a good idea, but if we failed to get Hinduism, I'd be extremely confident it was a terrible one. So, I guess we are in the profit still.

The gold will really help our dismal economy.

Here's Anubis. Why a second settler when we only have 1 worker? Well, a worker can only mine a hill in the Capital, so not much point in getting one now. Better to do it after the new city, which I'll settle by the pigs to share a lot with the Cap. Again, not sure if it's a good idea, but #casual.

Green borders is AT, Molach also met me (2 of my PB 27 neighbours, serendipitily enough). Shinigami does a nice job of starting to block that narrow strait between us and AT, with the Holy City culture. Trying to get that pig might be too much of a stretch, though.

Pictures!!!

All that coast and the lack of rivers to the SE means FIN might actually be a pretty solid trait here. That 1-tile hill island in the south looks like it's screaming for AT to build the Moai there.

My mystic powers predict that you will soon find this game more compelling.
