Ok I'll offer to make a map. I'll probably have gaming time over the weekend given it being Easter and I have pretty much decided on my 33 opening.
Currently my understanding is a:
Flat
Average sized 150-200 tiles per player
4 player
Water - some but navy not mandatory
Highly balanced but not identical
Only thing I would want to know is natural vs interesting - do you want a as natural looking as map as possible or more quirky placement of resources/floods for different settling options.
And of course plenty of barb submarines to make it really amusing

Is the map creation thread open to players ? Or is it for you and lurkers to discuss the future map ? If so you should put [Spoiler] in the thread.

Looks like you just made the Christmas Card list! Thank you.
I vote that you can be as quirky as you want. Of course, my view is mine only.

I can get a general outline with that down. Do note that the general map wrap being flat and that requested amount of water makes it a pretty preset map shape if there is to be any moderate balance

quirky is fine in my view too, but nothing outrageous (see "cow island" mentioned earlier )
re barb subs; thought they were turned off

Again, speaking only for myself, but that's fine. Do what you got to do. On a related note, and to help us get moving, I think we should assume that a snake pick will occur with the points system in mind. This is what has been used previously. If anyone does object to this, then please do say so.
With that being said, if you, REM, and the other lurkers could reach a consensus on points then we, as players, can start coming up with ideas and whatnot. Thanks again.

If it's a snake pick, does it work by you spending your points in two different places (eg first you pick EXP then you pick Zulu when it's your turn again) or do you spend all your points for either a leader or civ then you spend your points for the other on the reverse pick?

I would presume, but I'll stand corrected, that we'd spend points on either leader or civ on the way down & in reverse on the way up.
But it could easily be a 3 way pass; pick trait, trait, civ or trait, civ, trait or civ, trait, trait.
Obviously those on the turn pick both in the first option, or 2 in the second.

I was under the impression that it was a 2-way pass of leader and civ, I'm not sure the decisions are that much more interesting by having us pick one trait at a time.
REM, map outline sounds good, and thanks for volunteering! I'll vote for quirky over natural terrain, but barb subs or a dozen pre-placed barb cities might be a bit more of a variant than what I had in mind .
