The Youtube thing went really well, did three 5 vs 5 custom games with a mixture of RB people and random Youtube people. All of the games were close; only the second one was a little off because there was a player AFK for long stretches of time on each team. The last game was really good, a 60 minute game that came down to the final team battle. I'm hoping it goes as well again next week.
I picked Tuesday because it fit with my personal schedule, not because it had anything to do with patch day. Hopefully that won't mess things up, since patch day is always a little crazy...
Oh, and this newest patch didn't just mess up the interface, it also broke the shop and broke XP/IP gain. Whoops! I think I agree with Gustaran.

Yeah, I played 2 normal games, both lost near the 30 minute mark. I received around 40 IP each. Before the patch, I could earn 71 IP in 11 minutes.
I understand if Riot doesn't like bot farming, but then they need to adjust rune/champion prices and not hit IP gain across the board....
If you check the official forums, the majority of players are not very happy

From Zileas, one of the developers:
IP per minute awarded on a win at 25/40/55 minutes:
Old system: 4.7/2.7/1.9
New system: 3.0/2.7/2.6
IP per minute awarded on a loss at 25/40/55 minutes
Old System: 2.5/1.8/1.3
New system: 1.7/1.6/1.6
Much flatter distribution, which is a good change, IMO. I'm not sure if the 3v3 map still gives lower IP - you'd think this system would work for equalizing per minute games across maps. But with Riot, I guess you never know.

In theory, maybe. However, from my experience, many solo queue games are decided before the 30 minute mark and early surrenders are actually quite common. Yes, it's nice to get more for those 60 minute games, but that's usually 2 out of 10. I am pretty sure that net IP gain has gone down.
Riot could have just raised the values for later games if they were so concerned about distribution. Frankly, I think they looked at their data and figured if they give players overall less IP, people will be forced to buy more RP = more income.
Actually I start to dislike this free2play model more and more. I hope DOTA2 costs a flat amount of money once and unlocks all champions and runes.
I wouldn't care about the IP, but you really need a ton of them to buy runes and runepages if you want optimal performance for different champions...

Gustaran is right. In solo queue, early surrenders are extremely common. I would guess that half of all games are decided by the 30 minute mark, and probably 85% by the 45 minute mark. The number of players who are willing to soldier on and try to turn around a losing position (like us) is extremely small. The LoL player base has the general opinion of surrender early and often, play more total games, farm more IP overall.
This is a direct hit on the amount of IP that the player base is earning. It's a really cheap move on Riot's part, and I'm not surprised that there is major player unhappiness. I agree that they should have simply boosted IP gain for longer games... LoL has a *LOT* of unhappy players just waiting to jump ship to another competing product. If anything, they should be acting more generous with DOTA2 on the horizon, not further antagonizing their playerbase with stingy rewards.
I would also happily jump to another game with a flat purchase fee, if given the right circumstances. (Not interested in Heroes of Newerth though; dislike the art style and hate the "denying" mechanics.)

Although I don't have the link on hand, in the discussion of game lengths and IP cost on the LOL forums, one developer said that the average 5v5 game length was 35-40 minutes long, including the games that surrendered at 25. It'd be really nice if they showed us the data distribution of game lengths.
Edit: Hmm, couldn't find the post again. I did find this though: http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/sho...p?t=522904, where a developer explicitly told someone that they want average IP gains to be the same in the new system and that they would tweak things if that wasn't the case.

Riot also said that their new map was "just around the corner" five months ago. I don't believe them. :neenernee

Riot has published a graph with the IP changes:
http://www.leagueoflegends.com/board/att...1297989515
Now, I am no math pro, but isn't it problematic to simply look at the average game time ? Let's say you play 3 won games: (25min+25min+65min) = 115 minutes / 3 = 38,3 minutes. As far as I can see from the graph (approx):
Old:
118IP+118IP+102IP = 338IP
New:
76IP+76IP+142IP = 294IP
One problem is that IP gain is capped at the 55min mark, the other that if you play many shorter games (such as in the Solo Queue), even though the average is the same, you lose IP.
And the new surrender time is 20min, which is off the charts in this graph.
EDIT:
riot Wrote:The graph included reflects changes that are going into effect next time we restart the servers
So right now it's lower, no wonder it felt weird.
EDIT 2:
Seems like everyone got a free 10 win IP boost

That's right - you can't just look at the average game time. You need to know the distribution of game times, ie, what percentage of games lost 25 minutes, 26 minutes, etc. Multiply those percentages times the IP gained at each ending minute will give you the expected IP gains in each system.

Falling back in love with Ashe. <3
How do people build her around here? I go boots+pots/doran shield-boots-brutazlier-lvl2 boots of some kind-bf sword item(ie, cleaver, bthrister)-lw. I don't know if the brutazlier is worth it on Ashe. I've also seen cdr boots, which I'm conflicted about. WHAT DOES RB THINK?
