[SPOILERS]The Tyrant realizes that once the world burns it gets really boring....

I took way too long to play that turn, I got interrupted a few times including one stoppage to fix the mail server at work. Grrrrreat. No report tonight, I'll write it up tomorrow morning. But something fun until then:

Are we doing it right? lol The only player missing from that graph is Retep and he was like 5th last time we checked. But he's spending EPs on us like there's no tomorrow right now so who knows if we'll ever see his graphs again. Back to deducing the missing numbers, I suppose. Meh.

Anyway, a brief summary is that we captured the marble city from Kuro last turn, so the count is now three cities taken (two from Sisub, one from Kuro) and zero units lost so far. party Time to pay the piper soon, though, after Sisub is gone it's probably going to get really messy in our corner of the world I'm afraid. More details on that tomorrow, but I think Suttree is about to be a big trouble maker and will try to interject himself into the Sisub consumption process. More to the point, he's going to be too late to take any of Sisub's cities, I think, but he may well be perfectly positioned to hit us with a bunch of cuirassiers while our units are all beat up. banghead

We could always just declare on him and offer an immediate peace treaty before among our attack on sisub's last cities. If he accepts, good, and we have time to heal. If not, we can wait for him to attack those cities and then counterattack his wounded troops. What makes you concerned that he's looking to punish us? He could be going after Oxy instead, right? Or did you see actual units?

We won't be logging back in before we take a crack at the capital and Suttree will have likely already played by then, unless he's willing to be obvious about it and wait until after us at the end of the turn. Since we have to wait for both Kuro and Sisub to play (particularly Sisub since he has been playing very late in the turn recently, damn the war split) Suttree would have to quite deliberately wait to play after us and I don't see that happening. He's been really good with the timer for most of the game. But tactically speaking, yeah, playing after us would confer the greatest advantage to him if we are his target. We should have at least 15 damaged cataphracts at the end of this turn and if we capture the capital Suttree's borders will be right against the city granting easy access.

I guess I'm getting ahead here though, I should explain the cuirassier threat first. Time to write a turn report.

T176 - It took me forever to play the turn last night, I kept getting interrupted and having to log out and come back to the game. Finally got it done, sorry I had to hold it up but Halvgud didn't exactly play early in the turn. Anyway, report:
To recap, this was the southern front with Sisub at the end of last turn:

His only change was that he added a longbow to Lesson this turn, visible both in the city and in that rival worst military increased by 6000 power. He has 16 units total defending the city: those four longbows, a pair of crossbows, and then a stack of ancient age trash our phracts can't wait to eat. After I played, our final positioning looks like this:

We're basically in position to belt him next turn at the capital. We'll throw in two catapults to die and hopefully scratch a few longbows (there are four now). After that it's phract after phract until the city is subdued. We have 29 cataphracts and a CR2 axe (lol Hi!) in position to attack after the catapults do their work, that should be plenty to empty out the city and take it. If the dice are extremely favorable we may be able to take a shot at Renewal and its seven unit garrision but I kind of doubt that one. The assumed plan, barring outside intervention (Suttree!!!!) is to wipe the capital's culture and then attack Renewal next turn. We'll be able to move forward the ancient age garrison from Revival along the path of the green arrow above next turn (after the nearby workers put a road on that tile once the capital culture is gone) and have that stack in position to attack across the river in case things go badly for the main attacking phract stack. Either way we should have enough on hand to releive Halvgud of playing further turns after T178 at the latest. If the dice betray us this will get messy but I don't see any way Sisub lives to see the weekend....unless Suttree spoils the fun.

So about that, here's the tech screen:

Wetbandit researched Economics and...Suttree burned through 1528 gold this turn! yikes Coincidentally he can no longer research Military Tradition. Knight upgrades to cuirassiers, hello there. I'll be sorely disappointed if he chooses to send everything at us and busts up our wounded stack right after we crack the nut at Sisub's capital. Can you say grudge war until the end of the game? I can. Don't do it, Suttree. nono I was hoping I had found evidence that this theory was incorrect because I don't see a significant jump in rival best power like you would expect when someone burns that much cash upgrading units to cuirassiers (and I'd expect them to be knights to cuirassiers, which is what, like 80 gold?). At the start of T176 rival best power was 912000, at the end of the turn rival best was unchanged. So maybe the upgrades aren't visible on F9 until the next turn (I don't think that's the case but let's go with that for a seecond). Start of T177 rival best is 920000, an increase of only 8000. So that isn't it...But then I remembered WilliamLP is rival best power, not Suttree so all that tells us is that William effectively added strength 8 to his army over the last turn (probably added more and lost some too). So no help there.

OK, so let's analyze rival average power instead. Start of turn it was 575,375 and end of turn it was 572,750, a loss of 21,000 power total (average loss mulitplied out by the 8 remaining rival players). So...duh yeah that doesn't help, that's mostly what I killed from Kuro last turn. At this point I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a screen shot of the event log because I don't remember exactly what I killed last night. I think it was seven units, and only two or three were strength six (a HA and maybe two longbows?). The others would have been axes or spears/chariots. But let's give it a high guess and say I killed 3*strength 6 + 2*s5 + 2*s4, for 36,000 power in dead Businessmen. That doesn't include any killing William probably did on his front with Kuro and since he has a lot of beat up units down there I'm guessing he has killed some units this turn. Anyway the point of all this is that in spite of me killing off an estimated 36,000 Businessmen power during the turn the rival drop was only 21,000, so there were probably some power increases during the turn (amounting to estimated 15000 power, give or take how much I actually killed from Kuro, and plus or minus whatever units were killed between Kuro and William), or --and this goes to the mechanics of how unit upgrades appear in the demographics screen -- Suttree's cuirassier upgrades could appear in the 101000 rival power that was added at the turn roll. Divided among 8 remaining players that would only be equivalent to a pair of longbows and some change, and with two rivals at war that wouldn't be hard to believe, but I guess the point is that there are way too many scenarios here for me to figure out where the increases specifically came from this turn. I'll have to wait another turn and see them on the power graphs. Two turns from now, though, we may already have found out if it was Suttree and cuirassier upgrades.

In case anyone wants to try to follow through any of my work above (and why would you? It's all probably wrong!) here are the relevant demographics screens I pulled numbers from. First T176 start of turn, then T176 end of turn, then T177 start of turn (the current turn, or "next turn" in this report):

T176 End of Turn:

T177 Start of Turn:

Good luck with these! lol

Up north against Kuro here's where we are after I attacked and captured Steve Jobs and a pair of workers:

Looks like we have the situation in hand. The only tough call here was whether to grab the pair of workers you see in the northwest of the shot, I had a phract with enough movement to do it but I opted instead to cover the wounded phract in Steve Jobs. We don't really need more workers up here, Kuro has built roads on everything for us already. lol The plan going forward is simple, grab Bill Gates (hopefully it has been size 2??) and then swing the army west to take everything we can down the icy way toward Kuro's capital. He's playing a fun game of The Alamo there against William, Willie can clear those longbows out if he wants the city:

Yeah, we're not dedicating that kind of force to grab Kuro's capital, not worth it. That little chokepoint will make a fine border between us and William. If we can grab John Dodge, Kuro's moai city, and then burn that abomination to the west (David Buick...Kuro how did you manage to miss all the food with that one???) I'll be happy down here. William, the race is on! lol

Elsewhere in the turn it's the same old stuff, shuffling new units toward the nearest front. This is a fun process given the big watery body in the middle of our empire:

In the Byzantine Bay we have 2 phracts moving along with some conveyor belt action. The phract built in We Steal will end turn unloaded in Stars Above ready to move out next turn, and the phract built last turn in We Steal will unload with movement points this turn. Thanks Scoopin, this is the best trick I learned from you guys in PB8. thumbsup

Unsurprisingly, here are our city builds.

I guess the question we need to answer is how long we want to keep war production going. Obviously as long as we're at war, but our golden age is ending soon and we'll need to change civics. Police State is great for producing units but our economy despearately needs representation if we're ever planning to research again. But given the investment in military maybe we need to push it as far as we can go and just stay in police state. Boldly, this is a longer term question for you to answer since you're playing for a while going forward. I'll put down thoughts on long term civics next time I'm in the game.
As the turn rolled I checked EPs, Retep is denying us graphs and it isn't even close. Sorry for a repost, but here is where it fits in the report:

We probably won't get graphs on him again for a while. After the turn roll Sisub's T176 whip became evident, as a longbow appeared in his capital. So he has five LBs in Lesson now. And unbelievably he finished a settler in Renewal....OK! Free worker for us! I'm not sure where he's going to send the settler...maybe he'll load it on the galley, but there's nowhere for it to settle except on the little spit of land Kuro's scout is on, not that it would survive there for long. Anyway I'll be curious to see what Halvgud does with that settler. lol

Fake edit: Ack did it really take me an hour to write a turn report...yeah, now I'm late for work! lol Oh well, I have priorities right?!

Well done with the war prep. And well done with your priorities (war and Civ > ALL Else)

I'm still waiting for a video from Mr. Furious.

Where did you send the Jewish missionary from ML? Or did it just fail spread en route like a spy getting caught in foreign territory?
Reply

Also, is there any chance we could get someone to prod sisub into playing his part of the turn in the first 12h of the turn timer? I'm not playing any turns at 2a and I hate that the game is being paused basically every turn now.

I didn't know where you wanted to send the missionary do he went to learning to start cultural spread. Which was a dumb idea if we're about to be in caste again, oops. Where was he supposed to go, one of our cities that are producing a lot of phracts for an extra promotion? Seems obvious in retrospect...

Whatever, our people need relief from the whip, not new gods to worship. The sooner they kill our enemies the sooner they'll find their relief.

Mindy, who is Mr. Furious? Sounds like a nice guy.
