Surprisingly, according to this article, Engineering does not give any soldier points.

We have 3 cats and 3 knights that can get to wifom in a couple of turns. How about bombarding until they can get there?

Those power numbers are really useful Yossarian, they suggest that Trolls don't have anything to dislodge our stack, so we don't have to run away just yet. If we just sit there until our small number of reinforcements can get to the stack Tas might even attack drawing defenders off. I think we are stuck with hoping TEAM will help out, Trolls drafting was far more than we could cope with in the end. I just wish Lewwyn was still in charge of TEAM - war is his speciality!

Your figures also suggest that a sortie around the coast to their MOM city might find good odds. They've got to have a few units in their TEAM border cities, meaning a skeleton staff elsewhere.

Perhaps we could do something like send four galleys round the coast and leave four near to On the Rocks - Trolls won't know which fleet our troops are on and if we use them right we could take a couple more cities...

Right now I think we need some pikes in our two vulnerable border cities as Troll Horse Archers could start arriving soon.

  • Confirm with TEAM that they're attacking on T145 by any means necessary!
  • Bombard with the cats for a couple turns
  • Ask M3 to check out the forces at Bloody Mary
  • Leave some troops 1W of WIFOM to guard the cats and circle the rest around to 2S of WIFOM to cut it off from On the Rocks
  • Depending on how guarded Bloody Mary is, move troops toward either On the Rocks or Bloody Mary
  • When TEAM burns the Zeus city, enter in peace negotiations with Trolls--try to get at least On the Rocks and WIFOM

1 - Wanna send an email?
2 - I agree
3 - Trolls can move units from WIFOM to Bloody Mary in two turns, so it doesn't really matter - we can send our three knights there to attack on t144 instead of reinforcing the WIFOM stack, maybe we should do that on spec?
4 & 5 - we could use our knights for this, they could do some pillaging whilst they are at it!
6 - Right now I doubt they'd give us On the Rocks let alone WIFOM. Depending on how the TEAM attack goes that might change, but I'm dubious... cry

Old Harry and I chatted a bit while he played the turn.

Quote:Old: Hey are you around?
Sent at 3:36 PM on Tuesday
me: Hey Old Harry
Kind of around
At work
Old: Ah, I've just got home so haven't looked at the threads yet.
me: Are you ready for the turn?
Old: Just logged in
me: I'll be more available in a couple hours. But if you want to play now, I'll try to keep an eye on this chat and the Dropbox folder
Old: Yeah, I'll have to play now - it's 11:40 here, I'll post any questions here, but you might not hear much from me.
me: Alright, sounds good
Old: I think the only big question was what to do with our stack at WIFOM
me: So what was the final decision? Keep most 1-movers there to bombard while we use the knights to scout and pillage?
Sent at 3:41 PM on Tuesday
Old: The 1-movers and bombard were decided, and I think CH was onboard with scouting an pillaging if you are? I'll have a look at whats possible.
Oh yeah, we have three knights that we can put on the tile 1 SW of Bloody Mary this turn. I'd like to do that just to see what our options are.
Sent at 3:46 PM on Tuesday
me: That sounds like a good plan to me
Sent at 3:47 PM on Tuesday
Old: I'm not sure how to do the pillaging trip. We'll leave 11 Zerks, a longbow and a pike in place with the catapults. They have 18 maces. Can they do us serious damage? I've put a snap in dropbox.
(yeah, it does take me a while to play a turn sometimes!)
Sent at 5:33 PM on Tuesday
me: Hmm, they could do a bit of damage, I would say
We are on a hill, though
Old: Yeah, and with knights near enough to do some damage back if they lose a lot of their maces...
me: That might not be a bad idea
It leaves a lot up to the RNG, though.
Sent at 5:43 PM on Tuesday
Old: So I was going to move seven knights to the SW of WIFOM and pillage that cottage away, then next turn they can get on the mine to the SE of WIFOM. What do you think?
Sent at 5:44 PM on Tuesday
me: Do they have any hidden Pikes, do you think?
That could really screw us over
Old: we would have seen some when we scouted wouldn't we?
They've been drafting maces and whipping castles I think
me: I think so. I don't even remember seeing any spears. They were probably counting on all zerks invading
I noticed they have walls in most of their cities, including in the north. I think their next round of whips might go towards defending against TEAM
Old: How about moving a Zerk or two to the stack of knights?
me: 1 zerk might be good
Old: Okay will do
six knights and one zerk pillaging party!
me: Haha, the zerk will have to move back with the main stack next turn, I think
Old: Yeah, maybe...
me: Also, keep in mind that I have 0 mp war experience, so feel free to ignore any of my suggestions
Old: That's about the same as me smile
me: We really need Mackoti right about now!
Old: More knigs!
me: I was hoping he might want to pop back into the forum and give some pointers, after he said that he's still keeping tabs on the team
Hahaha!
Sent at 5:51 PM on Tuesday
Old: A bit of strategic help would be good as well as the tactical stuff... Ah well
I think that I'm done - I'll put the report together and you can claim it's all my fault!
Sent at 5:53 PM on Tuesday
me: You've done an amazing job with this team. Glad you stepped up to the plate!
Sorry you haven't gotten too much support from the rest of us until the exciting stuff started happening
Old: Thanks - it's been really fun, but I'm feeling more out of my depth as we get into the medieval period - so many more variables around
Sent at 5:55 PM on Tuesday
Old: I'm happy to keep microing away, but working out tech paths and stuff like that is probably where we've fallen behind Trolls
me: Well, that's what this blaze of glory is for, right?
Old: I think we could take any of the other teams, but yeah, if the blaze of glory doesn't beat the Trolls then I think its GG
Not much point playing on for another x turns then conceeding
We have got golden ages overdue, but no great people due any time soon, so overtaking would be out of the question.
me: I have no idea about Tasunke (or Siam, really), but what they've shown so far in this game is that they won't be a bit of help. I think this is all on us
Sent at 5:59 PM on Tuesday
Old: They've made a few knights at least, hopefully they'll have some clue how to use them!
Do you want to paste this in the discussion thread?
Sent at 6:01 PM on Tuesday
me: Sure, I can do that
Old: Cool

Turn 143

Not much to report on the home front, we have pikes and crossbows being built in case of counter-attack. War weariness has kicked in in Dirk - we'll have sugar on line next turn to counter it, then the Market built for some more bonus.

I think we want to build National Epic in In The Stone. We want to revolt to Organised religion and possibly caste system if the war finishes. We also want to build the globe theatre. So the research options are Aesthetics->Literature->Drama or Poly->Mono when we finish Optics. Unless you want to get to gunpowder or something else?

On to the war.

After a discussion with Yossarian we split up the stack to allow the knights to do a spot of pillaging. Trolls have 18 maces. Can they do our remaining stack serious damage? If so our Knights will sweep in and destroy them all! hammer

On the water I've split our fleet into two, they have three triremes and a galley, so we temporarily outgun them, but if they add another Trireme we'll need to bring the other triremes into our main stack. It's not possible to fork Weissbier and White Russian, but I think we want to go after Weissbier

Up north our three knights come upon a cat and a mace... They'll whip/draft in a couple more maces over the interturn. Probably just enough to block our attack.

This graph is looking a bit better now

This one not so much, come on TEAM!

And Trolls are only 40000 soldiers behind us.

And if you are reading Mackoti, any pointers?

Turn 144 part one

Wahay! Very generous Mr Stick. This solves our immediate war weariness problems...

On the battlefield our stack of pillaging knights cleverly drew Trolls into an unwise (I hope) attack. Unfortunately they also killed our re-inforcing cats. They now have 13 maces, a pike and two chariots in WIFOM, while we have 10 Zerks, 2 knights, six cats and two chariots. I'm going to log out and test what is possible.

Up north I want to move the knights 1N to threaten Mai tai... Bloody Mary has three maces and a cat in it.

While down south we might be able to burn White Russian. I'll sim that too.

Reply

So it looks like with a little luck we can take White Russian. WIFOM on the other hand is impregnable. What do you want to do with our stack?
Reply

Hmm, with a bit more testing it looks like we need quite a lot of luck to take White Russian. I'll go and take care of the city micro before coming back for war stuff later...
