novice Wrote:How many workers have you got?

I have 14 workers currently (compared to 18 cities). That is pretty low, but it's actually not that bad, what with all my cities being so small (due to my crazy worker/settler whipping strategy).

I believe of all the tiles I'm working, there's only maybe 1 or 2 empire wide that aren't improved.

Additionally, WK is trying to gift me 4 workers within the next few turns (though I may have to dole out 1 or 2 of them to others)

Okay it was suggested that I take some overview shots to illustrate what I'm doing, and why it's not quite as crippling that I have 18 cities and only 14 workers (when typically it's recommended that you have 1.5 workers per city or so). Now I'm new to this whole expand like crazy style of development, so I can't confirm that I'm doing it right exactly, but at least my mistakes will hopefully be illustrative! lol

Okay first, the north

Cities: 7 (Vine, Harrison, Hamilton, Tylersville, Batavia, Miami) (Also counting Montgomery which is just south of Vine but off camera)
Sites left: 4 (1 you can see and there are 3 more in the far north off-camera) - you can see 2 of the settlers already in production

Vine: Size 4, forge, library, lighthouse, Great Lighthouse (all cities are assumed to already have Granary and Ihkanda unless specified). 2 deer, farm, cottage and 2 mines. Usually I'm whipping this guy from 5 to 3, though now that he has a forge I'm going to start on a market after this settler gets whipped, though I probably won't slowbuild it - probably whip at least one more settler into it.

Harrison: Size 2 - has pigs and 2 cottages. Going to build a settler once it gets to size 4

Hamilton: Size 3, lighthouse and soon to be Moai, though no ihkanda I just realized. Has clams, copper, whales and with Moai everything's a "special" - at least 2/1/2.

Tylersville: Size 1 - granary and working on ihkanda. It has a (unimproved) crabs tile and there's a fish that is in its BFC but currently (and likely for the near future) under Parkinstan control

Batavia: Size 3, lighthouse and Monument. Currently getting overflow into a settler - next turn I'll build something to grow to size 4 and then swap back to the settler and whip when possible.

Miami: Size 1, working on granary which will be chopped out shortly - I have 2 workers working on the sheep pasture. After all that talk of worker MM, somehow I clicked cottage instead of pasture and wasted a few turns grrrr.

Montgomery: Size 3, monument, Has the rice tile on the south of the picture and 2 cottages (actually a hamlet and village). My angriest city - has 3 angry faces and has been on a 4/2 worker/settler whipping cycle for many many turns.

Okay now the west

Cities: 4 (Madison, River, Kellogg, Paddock)
Sites left: 2 (Dixie to be founded next turn)

Madison: size 3, has corn and 1 cottage. Also has unimproved ivory, which I haven't hooked up because I don't need the happy and won't work a 1/3/1 tile. There's a worker there

River: size 2, has cows, silk, copper and currently improving the wheat

Kellogg: Size 1, working on ihkanda. On the river, and has 3 jungle dye tiles - worker has chopped the first one and is working on the plantation. Not a lot of food here - could have been a mistake to found here.

Paddock: Size 1, working on ihkanda, has river grass horses (2/3/2 !), can share the wheat and the deer camp is currently being improved.

Okay now the east:

Cities: 7 (Reading, Colerain, Beechmont, Winton, Galbraith, Columbia, Delta)
Sites left: 2 (Buttermilk, Erie) + 2 possibles (north of Erie and east of Buttermilk). WK is going to found at Erie soon.

Reading: Size 4, Monument, Library. Has corn, gold, a grass hill mine, and 2 cottages (1 shared with Colerain). Can also share another corn and iron with Colerain.

Colerain: Size 3, Monument, Library, forge whipped this turn. Has corn, iron, horse, fur, river grass hill mine, and 1 cottage (shared). Also can share the rice with Beechmont

Beechmont: Size 2, Monument, Lighthouse. Has rice, 1 cottage and coast. Can share copper with Winton I guess I could cottage the grass hills but that doesn't seem like a good idea. This is probably a weak city but was founded to seal off this area. Will probably work on the 4/2 whipping cycle - maybe workers and missionaries.

Winton: Size 2, working on granary. I was going to whip it this turn but it will be done in 2 turns working the copper mine. Has cows and copper.

Galbraith: Size 2, has a banana and one cottage. Has 27/60 in a worker which I'll whip next turn. Lotta jungle over here....

Columbia: Size 4, lighthouse, monument and whipped a forge this turn. Clams, Cows, gems and 1 cottage. I think I'll start on a market here because a settler doesn't really make sense since I don't really want to found the iffy site here yet. It's so far away and has no food, just 2 grass ivory. Eventually I'll want to found it but not quite yet.

Delta: Size 1, just whipped the granary. Has a banana tile and the worker is working on the jungle rice. There's also a WB to net the fish once borders pop in 2 turns. This is the globe theater site. I believe it will be +14f at size 5 (+2 center, +3 bananas, +3 rice once irrigated, +4 fish, +2 for 2 grass farms), which will be just about every turn drafting.

Great update but, man, you didn't spell the name of your Unique Building right once.

Did I at least spell it the same each time? I'm a computer programmer man - don't you know what they say about compilers? They don't care if you can't spell, as long as you're consistent lol

Email to WK

Quote:Hey there,

I saw that you converted to Judaism? Did you get a peace deal signed? I also see 2 of your workers approaching - did the other 2 get eaten by plako?

Talk to you later

Obviously them signing peace could be a problem for us (if plako sends his army our way)

Quick reply back from WK

Quote:Nah, no peace deal. I figured I might as well try to see if he gets any 'we wont fight brothers in faith' unhappiness on him. Might be more effective then just spamming archers when he has cats, but I generally don't seem to be doing much either way.

The other 2 workers are in my galley, heading for the general location of my settler. I might try and improve the city a bit, although I will give them to you eventually. The workers heading towards you I'll gift when they reach your borders.

WK

So that's good though I doubt it really does much
