Okay, our options seem to be:
- 2-pop whip the galley in BoP, and send the settler to the island early, divert France's chop into work boat and use the other settler for the silks city to the south of France
- settle the jungle closer to Suttree (N or W of the sugar) giving him another angle to attack from
- settle the jungle between us and m_h that doesn't have any resources
- settle the other hill in the river valley
I'm inclined towards the first. And I need to leave in about five minutes, so if I don't hear a shout that's what I'll do.

Okay, I have to go. I moved the settler 1 NW of Gallipoli, from where he can board the galley next turn, or go in a different direction if you think that is dumb. Whipped the galley, and switched France to work boat. Then ended turn.
BTW dtay must have landed the great library last turn. He's top of the scoreboard now.

For future reference, you should not need to attack over the river at Hastings, especially with a chariot - move 1W then attack using your roads.
Edit: My next post is No. 2000!

Oh no
I guess reloads because of a misclick are not ok in this game, right? Lurkers? Brick? It's just really stupid that one wrong worker actions costs us the whole region between us and m_h.
I'm gonna log in and see what suttree did.

Suttree did not do any visible unit movements. Except he moved the galley towards Jamestown, but retreated immediately. And he whipped a city.
It really sucks that m_h will now get that plains hill site. It's a great city and also gives him a really nice defensible border against us. I need to calm down and sleep before I can start planning our next actions.
Anyways, I guess that galley whip and heading towards NW was a solid reaction under these circumstances. Assuming that we are not too late for that desert hill site..
Assuming m_h now settles that plains hill I think we want a city N of that sugar resource between us and suttree soonish.

Turn 108 preamble
Sorry about the screw up, I guess I was wondering what to do with the second worker if we were going to settle the iron and thought chop rather than road at the crucial moment. ![bang bang](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/bang.gif) The good(?) news is that m_h settled the city in place, so our previous plan wouldn't have worked anyway... (I'm secretly relieved ![mischief mischief](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/mischief.gif) , although still an idiot). But it does open up a new plan. We settle the hill tile I've highlighted on t110 and work as many artists as possible when we spend time in caste system, and otherwise load the city with culture. It's on a hill and allows the x? just south of Dunkirk too, which can share the bananas and grow cottages for Gallipoli.
To use the galley we can load the bowman t109, whip the French settler t110, get him on the galley t111, unload him t112 and settle t113 with the clam already improved (ignore the numbers on the pic, they were for using the Iron city settler). We can use the work boat to check that we're not too late - if we are then I guess we head for the silk city. Planting on the "settle 112" spot orphans the fish, but gets the clams first ring. Alternatively we could plant on the iron (which will only ever be a 0/3/0 tile but am I right would be a 2/2/1 city tile?) That would be a very slow start but it would get the incense eventually and allow a city to claim the clams (although not much else if Slow's city stays there) - I can't actually decide which I prefer...
Over here Suttree's borders popped. Flug can't secretly keep sight on the area any more, so should he
- move to the Flug here tile
- move W to give early warning about threats to the Sugar city
- move SE to find out a bit more about Suttree's area and perhaps interfere with worker moves?
Finally should Hasting overflow to a bowman or an axe? (or a chariot or a spy?) Bear in mind it has a chop incoming in 3 turns. Also should Jamestown build the Barracks or build a galley? We could use a galley to uncover where his stack has gone or from the tile NE of the island (which is hidden from Suttree if he doesn't have his galley where it is right now) we could drop a couple of axes on his gems mine. I'd probably leave it on a barracks.

Shhhh ![shhh shhh](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/shhh.gif) I don't want Krill to mock us again
I don't really understand why m_h settled that city, but it means the misclick didn't make any difference to how we settled. Can m_h have a spy in our land yet? Or perhaps he just wanted to share the wheat? Either way he gets lots of forests to turn into wonders (hopefully) or units (please no)...

This isn't that special a post, but I just wanted to point out if we settle that western coast city 3S of Cannae, that will lock out all further settlement in the border region with m_h, leaving us competing for only one tile of any importance (two total) and creating a fairly wide buffer between our cities - the kind of border that doesn't invite invasion. For that reason, do we really want to compete for the iron as well? We do/will have iron elsewhere in our empire. This might actually be the reason m_h settled where he did - he knew we couldn't settle up on the iron, only compete (and he must be confident of success), and he wanted to create a stable, unantagonizing border. We might want to keep it that way. Just my two gpt.

Already forgotten! ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) Now that m_h settled in place you are right: that misclick did not do any real damage. We should have simply grabbed this area even without worker support just a bit earlier.

And I like this plan.. Let's start a culture war.. ![crazyeye crazyeye](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/crazyeye.gif) I left some signs in game.
- The worker S-SW of Gallipoli should finish the road this turn.
- Then spear + settler + worker move onto the tile S-SE of Gallipoli
- Next turn the worker S-SW of G puts another turn into chop, other worker roads. Settler & Spear move SE to hill and on T110 the city will be founded.
The interesting thing about this city is that suttree will see it's cultural borders.. More of that later..

And I like this plan as well! It would be nice if we would get that site. I prefer the desert hill grabbing clams+crabs. We actually don't have those health resources yet and thanks to hill that site is more defensible.

I prefer this option! The thing is that if suttree sends a 10-axe stack towards our new city, we can't relocate our troops in the east and the city will burn. So what we try to do is to show him that we have a clear vision of the area and no surprise attack is possible. Gallipoli should put 1 hammer into bowman next turn so that we can whip one if required.
If suttree would send a big force towards City K anyways it opens up interesting scenarios. We might need to threaten his border cities so that he can't send everything to our "western front".

I think axe is fine here.

Yeah barracks is fine. Currently it looks like the city is going to need to build a bunch of units in the near future.. Near-term survival is our first goal and probably barracks is still a better investment than galley. We do want a galley out of there soon though!
Other micro issues:
- I whipped the settler in Endor. Let's move the spear S-SE of the city this turn?
- I think the worker near Endor should not do that plains tile roading that we discussed but waste a worker turn moving west. I think we want those cottages built between Agincourt and Gallipoli and our Horses pastured asap.
- I raised our science slider to 100 %. Now that I'm thinking about it more we don't have really have a significant amount of multipliers so maybe that 40 % which is enough to get us Mysticism is enough.
- I think our worker+unit composition should remain the same near Jamestown this turn. So workers mine+cottage. Next turn we can hopefully start farming that corn..
Our demos suck this turn. Luckily we get 4-pop growths and will settle new cities in the coming turns. So that would help a bit. But overall we really need to make most out of our economy if we want to compete for the win in this game. Suttree situation is of course the biggest drain, but if he gives us still couple of peaceful turns, we will be able to produce units for the area in a way that is not too terrible economically. I have a bad feeling that he will throw a major stack towards us in the near future though.. ![shakehead shakehead](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/shakehead.gif) Hopefully we get still at least 1 turn so that Hastings gets that border pop!
Ok, that's all for now I guess! I should be available in chat during the next couple of hours if needed!

You have a fair point. Here are couple of main arguments why we should compete for iron + rice anyways:
1. That site 3S of Cannae is pretty weak. We might want to settle it later, but currently it's still pretty useless. (no new food resources, only 2 uncompeted grassland tiles that are still covered by jungle.
2. Overall this jungled area will be valuable in the long term and we want our share of it. The site that we are about to settle could become e.g. an amazing production city if we workshop those grassland tiles, get that iron etc. Of course we could cottage everything as well..
3. M_h has no power and aggressive response from his side is pretty unlikely for now. I'm sure he must feel good about getting that site and his first priority will be just defending his city. Our site is also on a hill and thus defendable in the short term.
4. If suttree does not ruin our game I'm confident that we can remain the more powerful civ and eventually attack m_h. 20 knights in 40 turns? It's just a pity that m_h got all those beatiful forests. ![rant rant](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/rant.gif) 9 forests in BFC.. That accounts for a fair bit of units or infra..
