[SPOILERS] Charriu and Zalson are fighting the honorable post count war!

No big deal, your English is pretty good overall, just thought the pointer might be helpful. smile

Another English grammar quibble: "it's" is the contraction for "it is." The possessive form is "its", e.g. "My capital and its garrison were safe." Like Zed-F, I'm impressed by your writing in a non-native language, but this error is one that makes me grind my teeth every time I see it (and that's pretty often, unfortunately).

Oh boy, did I really make that mistake. I totally get why this is annoying. It's comparable to the dreaded "your" vs "you're" mistake. I promise to look out for that in the future. But I think this mistake is found in my whole thread, so I am sorry for not correcting this because of the size of my thread.

What's next?

Seeing as this game is over and my analysis is done it leaves only one question, what can you expect from me next.

This was my second MP game and I was playing Civ for more then half a year, which is more time then I ever put into this game. I really enjoyed playing the game even if at some time it was frustrating. I loved creating those micro management plans and reporting for you lurkers, but this all takes up a very long time from the short daily time I have. Between work and being a dad of two, there's not much time left and I also have a big backlog of games I wanna play. Recently I saw this youtube video, which is unrelated to all of this but it contained this neat graph:

Right now I feel like I'm in the spot marked with an X. I really enjoyed playing and reporting, but the effort I have to put into this on a daily basis is just too much for me. So I will take a bigger pause from playing MP. It would be great to find a way to reduce the effort it takes, but right now I don't see how without giving up the things I liked while playing.

But fear not I still want to do some things in the near future and I would like your opinion about it and if it is interesting for you.

  1. I want to try out being a mapmaker. This should take considerably less time then playing a whole MP game and it looks interesting to me. Before I would actually make a map I would first like to practice this skill a bit. I will probably create a thread in the General Discussion section to start learning and get feedback from you guys. With a bit of practice the potential players won't have to wait so long for their map.
  2. I actually never finished/won a game against Deity level AI. This would be more of a learning for me. If you like I can report about this similar like in this thread. The big advantage for me in here is that I can set the time constraints and adjust it to my daily schedule.
  3. I always liked some extreme challenges. So for example I found a mapscript which could generate continents consisting of mostly tundra and snow. That certainly was interesting. I would do a similar game with the continents consisting of only/mostly desert. This could be an interesting take of the game.
So if you want to read about any of these subjects, just let me know. I thinking about starting any of these with a few month of civ-pause.

Avoiding burnout is very sensible. Probably every player I've followed for any significant period of time has had a phase of just hating the game because of too much time involved.

Mapmakers are the best people. I'll test drive your first creations! People get touchy about balance, but nothing short of a mirror will be perfectly balanced.

Zalson's Deity reports were hugely popular, and I think he said he learned a ton from them.

Once upon a time, RB used to run tons and tons of single-player variant challenges. An RB historian would be better placed to tell you why they died off. Game got old I guess. They should be archived somewhere if you're feeling like opening a time capsule.

Enjoy a civ break! Don't feel obligated to play the game!

P.S. I don't know why I suddenly remembered this, but I dug out this old guide to "speed civving," which is equal parts brilliant and nuts.
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.

Charriu, your willingness to report in detail and diagnose your mistakes -- and not in your native language -- is admirable! You should feel proud of the game you played, even if you didn't win. I think the rest of the players will really enjoy reading your reports when the game finally ends -- and this game might end before a concession!

Thanks for the feedback. Always appreciated. Yes I read his thread too. It's really sad that he got so angry about it, but I don't want to steer up more attention. I already wrote what I had to write in his thread.

Charriu, if you want to do a Deity-level succession game, we could try that?
