I don't think it's unreasonable to set up 2-3 turns at this stage, and we're going to kill this game by pausing every time one person forgets to take care of their civ. That will get us one extra turn in, at least.
If he has a password in his thread a lurker having a look and playing any obvious moves seems reasonable...

Agree with above 3. You have at most ~10 (citizens accounting for most of them) moving parts at this stage, and probably a lot less.

Or at least check to see if he's got orders queued up and is ready to let the turn roll. I don't mind pauses as such but I think it's inconsiderate to let the timer run down and leave your fellow players wondering what's going on. That's why I want the "ask for a pause" rule. Since that rule hasn't been made official by a majority or admin decision, and Azza vocally disagreed with the rule, I guess we're stuck waiting for him or for an admin to intervene.
I have to run.
Thanks for the feedback. What about those who tend to not comment? All views are equally valid, not just those who are most vocal like me. I'm less worried about this delay than the next one and the one after that and I'm aiming to get some sort of majority policy decision for this game if we can get that level of participation in this discussion.
Thanks everyone. (April 20th, 2014, 12:17)novice Wrote:(April 20th, 2014, 11:26)Old Harry Wrote: If he has a password in his thread a lurker having a look and playing any obvious moves seems reasonable... I agree with the "ask for a pause" rule.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master. - Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"
If it weren't a holiday I'd feel differently but people travel, unexpected things come up, you might expect you will have internet but you don't, etc. Up to me, Christmas and Easter are the two times of the year to be really lenient about pauses.
To comment on the current situation - I really hope people are not basing the call for pause or not pause on Azza's stated preference? So if Boldly had disappeared we would have seen that he was in favor of letting the turn roll and we would have rolled it?
And I suggest that some one more nuts/with bigger nuts than me log on in 6 hours from now and unpause the game. Lurkers may of course log in and see that all is well. Anyway, my stance on things: (but don't roll my turns and pause for people not in favor please) Let it roll, let it roll. You can't reap what you don't sow. Plant a seed inside your CIV, Just one way to know it's worth. Let's celebrate the turn's Rebirth, We say Let it Roll! (In a 34 people game, we can't afford this. We also need to say something about length of pauses, but I'm struggling to think of good rules - personal crisis 3 days, normal travel-without-internet 2 days, forgot-to-play-it-sorry 24 hours..."as short as possible" seems the best bet. If lurkers are willing and up to the task, I think "After 24 hours a lurker finishes the turn to the best of his abilities (so updated player threads is a good thing)" is probably best for the game.
