[No Players] Where the Lurkers Take Their Holidays

Starting techs haven't been corrected to match their civs in the posted file. (Easiest way is usually to create a new map with the correct civs and leaders, then copy paste the whole section between "EndGame" and "BeginMap" in the Worldbuilder file.)

I didn't scan far enough when doing the file.

Unfortunately I lost internet briefly during the snow storm and my computer is not connecting to the internet since power came back on. Attempting to troubleshoot...

Edit: Naturally it works as soon as I post

Okay, file at the same link should be fixed now.

Appreciate all the checks. It's been a while since I last made a map.

I was going to ask if you'd remembered to remove Archer from the barbs, but that shouldn't be relevant here. I thought my mapmaking guide had a part on final checks before release, but I must have forgotten. Will try to add that soon.

Just a shame that rick can't read naufragar's thread. I was wondering if the target audience even exists, but rick sounds like he could benefit a good deal from it.

I think the Venn Diagram for "people willing to read a thread about Civ 4 game theory" and "people who pick based on a quick google of 'best civ/leader'"...is a pair of goggles. O  O

Looks like ricketyclik is the rare form of 'actual newbie' newbie. I hope they stick around to play a second game. Great username.

I don't think the target audience really exists at the moment, but it will probably continue to be a nice resource for any future players. My partner has consistently discussed wanting to play a PB for years at this point, for example, and it would be very useful for them if/when they decide to make the jump. Or if we ever get another COVID-esque boom like in 2020.

Thrawn is correct. Those must be the saltiest seas on the planet, neither with an outlet, deep in the desert. Calling this "fresh water" seems pretty questionable to me, and I'm not sure I'd like to be among the first settlers here...

Two golds, and getting both would require a seriously exposed plant. We'd also really want them both in the first ring most likely, or our Cre and Cha neighbors will be sorely tempted to plant 3 tiles away to steal one.... if we are even down to perform the level of pinkdotting that taking this entire border region would likely come across as. While a great city short-term, anything in this area would cap out at about 11 useful tiles, which may not be better in the lategame than a city working 20 "real" tiles....um, not that there are many spots around that seem likely to do that, either lol

Pindi, this is a beautfil little settling-puzzle. Personally I think I'd go for settling south of the gold where the scout is; would claim (and work) both golds, three floodplains and two lakes. The last floodplain could feed a bridge-city on the hills inbetween.

Honestly I was thinking that I would settle where his scout was in the picture - on the gold. But nobody has suggested that so maybe I'm wrong.
