RBP3 - [SPOILERS] - Team DIM (Mehmed of HRE)

meatbalz Wrote:one more thing: the one thing all the micro plans have in common is, there's no way we get a cottage up before turn 70 (!). i'm looking through HRE's thread from RBP2 to see how they approached the problem.

This is true sadness.... I love me some cottages. Especially since that land north of us has so many rivers. I think we have got to build some serious cottages up that way! I'm not the micro expert on the team, but that seems late. Is research just that slow on Emperor?

yeah, the main issue is our best gold tile is the pasture. at 2g/turn. in RBP2 every team started with furs, which would have helped our rsch immensely. they also started with irrigated rice. meaning every team could work a 3-food tile right off the bat.

our start is going to be painfully, painfully slow. i'll see what comes out with an ag->TW->pottery start.

this is why i'm so keen to get out and meet civs. we need all the help we can get w/ rsch. few people have hunting or myst and even if they're low priority they still have trade value.

Yeah but you can only start tech trading once you discover Alphabet wink

Emperor and Huge guys... smile

But I wouldn't worry too much about the cottages. Once we get Bronze Working we can start chopping those Workers/Settlers, so that once Pottery comes in, we can immediately build tons of them around our new cities.

exactly what i'm counting on, we're on the same page smile

cottages or not, the most anyone can grow to right now in their capital is size 4 until IW (5 with the CHA civs).

ilios, yeah, no trading until alphabet. the main benefit of contact is the discount...

and lest we get TOO depressed - we've only explored 2 turns' worth of the map. let's see what else is out there smile

I think we're seeing the different approach Sullla has to map making. He has a much higher view of random/unique starts compared to PB2 which was more uniform and "fair." Based on the demographics, it's clear some Civs are workign higher food tiles and others higher gold tiles (hopefully they're not the same ones!!!) and some are worker higher production tiles. I think this game will be more highly based on how we adapt to our situation.

indeed. it would be interesting to check whether, on crop yield, the fact we're 9th means there are 8 civs with better (i.e. all the civs working 3-food tiles will see they're 1st, all the ones with 2-food tiles see they're tied for 9th).

could any lurkers enlighten us?

I'm kinda hoping it doesn't put us all at 9th but just randomly assigns us with order. I don't want 8 teams to have more food than us! lol

would be interesting to see a sandbox simulating how additional cities impact maintenance costs with these map settings... can either of you guys help?

This weekend I was thinking about making a huge map with all the right civs and world builder'ing it to reflect what we know. But that'll take some serious time that I don't have before Saturday. I think it'd be helpful to use for simulations in the future for sure. My only question is about the map. Is it really a standard Huge size or has it been edited to be slightly larger than huge?
