That makes a lot of sense. If I recall, too, Sullla/Speaker's rationale was something like 'being middle of the pack is no fun, better to die early than to play the whole game from the middle'.

Precisely. There's a larger discussion to be had about utility winning, making it to the end, dying, etc, but that's basically it.
This is a larger issue in "real life" since not everyone is as level headed as an RB'er. Example: in the NFL you're a "gunslinger" if your high risk/high reward throws find their targets. Otherwise you're just an immature guy "forcing passes."

So it follows that you should always declare on this team if your early warrior finds them.

The problem wasn't the strategy, it was the execution. If the copper had been second-ring instead of third, you'd have gotten at least 1 spear down, and manhandled Athlete's chariot rush. And the copper tile could have made a big difference in rushing the Oracle.

They could have settled even their aggressive spot (although I still thing forgoing copper and river-defense to get 1 deer was a mistake from the start) if they had worked to defend their forward position. But for example someone send a warrior out scouting which would have been enough to hold Paris.
@Darrelljs It is brought up because it was one of the most surprising results ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) You were the only team deemed capable enough to be onpar with Sullla/Speaker
PS: I'm again dedlurking you and hope this game fares better than Pitboss3

Yup that was my bad. I made a mistake as to whether or not they had already moved on a particular turn, and thus moved a warrior that I shouldn't have.

Okay sorry to disrupt everyone's blibbering and blabbering about old games, and "optimal" "opening" "theory", but a turn has rolled and because we managed to land ourselves once again on the "Krill list", we played 2 turns in a row.
While it was sunrise who played the turns, I am here in my "someone who will actually update sunrise's thread" role.
Since he did not take (or at least did not post) a screenshot, here's an old one from Turn 7
We are currently on Turn 11 - from that pic we have moved
Turn 8: NE to the GFH
Turn 9: SE to the coast
Turn 10: NW back to the GFH
Turn 11: W-W onto the corn
Turn 12 (next turn) I think I'd suggest NW onto the bare tundra and then turnplayers choice (with the idea that we're trying to find the western coast over here and confirm (or deny) if there is a land connection that-a-way

Whoops! Good thing that I have such a reputation as a thread-spammer, because what I just posted was complete and utter rubbish.
Turn 10: we moved 1W to the tile 1E of where the scout is in the pic
Turn 11: SW-SW on to the plains forested hill (revealing a plains tile 2N of the fish)
Turn 12: we will move NW-NW onto the plains non-forested hill, hopefully revealing the coast and whether or not there's a land bridge
