Noob ffh game.

Yes, you should farm the river grassland, then the riverside sugar, then the lake sugar. You will demolish them way later.

The second worker will help you build the gold mine faster, setup your second city faster.

No, not right after calendar, later, when you get 3-4 cities.

The goal in the early game is to work as many improved tiles as you can. More citizens working more tiles means better everything: more production, more science.

That means growing your cities fast, and building lots of workers and settlers. That's all things that can be helped by more food. So usually you should get the food for your cities set up first. It's worth building extra workers and farming/bulldozing if that's what it takes to get you big cities fast.

If you're finding you've too many workers, then you can build a settler and spread them out some. If you really push hard on food for workers and settlers, you ought to be able to grab most of the land between you and your neighbors. But I find it very hard to build too many workers, there's always something useful they can do.

Four warriors is probably overkill, especially when you have neighbors so close to soak up barbarians for you. I would stop at 2 until you're ready to build your first settler.

Quote:edit : also the anarchy from switching civics ? is that worth it ?
Depends on the civic. Agrarianism is really awesome, though, especially early game, so I'd say that one is worth the anarchy. It's awesome - well, precisely because food is super important in the early game.

Agrarianism is worth the anarchy (though I agree, hold off on a second worker until minings in).
Definitely build farms on resources, you don't even want to build a plantation on the second sugar because a) the ai gives unbalanced deals & b) a farm has a much better tile yield than a sugar plantation.
I can't load the picture - the event is the farm one (either +commerce or +ฯfood)?
If so choose the food.

I am having trouble understanding this but let me get this. I should build farms over the resources to get more food. the time I build the roads could have had me farms in all those spots. When I get calendar, I just need the farms ? and when I get mining I will only mine the gold or do you want me to put farms everywhere?

Not always - but in this case, yes. Here are the reasons:
  • In the very early game, food is more important than anything else
  • Sugar Plantation isn't a very strong tile, only 4/0/1 yield I think (food/hammers/commerce). A farm is just about as good at 4/0/0.
  • You can only use the happiness once your city has grown up all the way. There's no difference between a size 4 city with 7 happy faces and a size 4 city wtih 8 happy faces.
The downside to farming it first is that you eventually want to come back and plantation, once you get your city grown up. So you waste about 5 worker turns. But given how many roads you have built, you have some extra worker turns too.

At mining, yes, you'll be chopping down a lot of forests and building farms. Mining the gold is probably first, but farms are nearly as important. You want a lot of extra food to make workers and settlers with.

but then do i build a road to connect the gold or is working it enough ? also then If i build 2 warriors, get a 2nd worker, warrior, settler .. i have 1 worker build a road to where I want my second city? and do I chop everything and build farms but that is without thinking of cottages and when I hit 7 population do I start changing the plantations?

Turn 36 , I reloaded and build the farms like everyone asked. I decided to go for a 3rd warrior just to feel safe.. I am probably going to build the 2nd worker like someone else asked and make him build a road to where I want my city.
