I don't want my threads locked, so clearly, Mr. Xenu, your idea is brilliant and should be enacted without delay.

Is there something special making the barbs in this game so nasty?

Just a large map with only seven players on it , I guess. [strike]And the 10 big barb cities I hid on map. [\strike] I'm going to guess it would have shown up on F8 if the game was accidentally set to raging barbs during setup.

I was kidding about locking the thread, in case that wasn't clear. nod

It's also seven players hand-selected by Commodore to have play styles that resonate with him, who tend to select micro plans where "get n cities by turn x" is the main way to evaluate early growth. And barb behavior keys directly off number of cities per player. (They went aggro immediately after the 22nd city landed on the map.)

(I may or may not be making a deliberately overly provocative statement about this game. lol)

If the barbarian atrocities continue I wonder if we'll see less aggressive micro plans and more unit builds? That chariot roll Gaspar lost was horrible, but it could have been even worse. That roll could have taken place in a battle adjacent to a city. In such an obviously "winning" attack (99.1% odds!) they probably wouldn't have bothered to have a second unit around in case the chariot attack somehow failed. And in that case, the barb takes the city. So take heart, Filthy Casuals! (And build axes!) lol

An excellent point. another thing this group has in common is they (so far) have not prioritized scouting. Other than Commodore, in an odd turn. (see pb13 early game he missed his Eastern peninsula for-like-ever)

It seems that is GG to Pindicator. As far as I can see, he doesn't have archery, nor any strategic resource left (nevermind, realized he has horses, though they don't help too much). He can't get archery before his Capital falling and likely not before everything else, with Impis + roads.
