Scout move and SIP since I think we had a consensus about those. Our fist chance to get lucky! popcorn Possible hut teches in the new mod:Fishing, Wheel, Agriculture, Hunting, Mysticism, Mining and we have fish and agri. Also note I didn't select tech, we don't have to until T4, so we don't waste any beakers by getting the tech we're researching from a hut. KTB for ancient tech is removed though.

Btw have you applied the changes to the hosts file?

Allright, finally managed to log in and have a peek myself! jive
Seems like I probably had the whole mod installed in the wrong place for it to work in mp. crazyeye

Seems like lurkers decided that we could do with some more happy as we got those silks.thumbsup Guess that means we won't be seeing any early commerce from precious metals though? That one silk is forested means we won't need IW to get a happy face, but of course we'll want it eventually for trade (and possibly tile yield). Silk and Ivory also leads to the market giving us two happy. We'll definitely be building one in the capital in due time, but it's almost a bit of a shame we're not expansive considering this.

In general I'm very happy with our capital, but I'm slightly worried about further expansion. It's impossible to share the corn with any other city and for the cows we have precisely one spot we could settle if we want to share them (that'll be able to grow 3 capital cottages though and claim the jungled silks, so seems quite likely as an early city).

A hut!dancingpopcorn
I agree on not deciding on a tech before popping the hut, but don't really think there's much point delaying it further than that. Quite a few teams have been caught out getting beakers into an unchosen tech in pitbosses and I'd rather that not be us.
Tech's of course always beneficial, but actually, the thing I'd like the most would probably be a second scout (or then a really large chunk of money).
As for scouting, I'm not quite as sure as I was earlier about us being in the north of our continent. Looking at that northernmost tile we have vision on there's a river even N of there, so might be further land in that direction.

Seems like there's going to be restart (due to something about the map in Elkads territory). No big deal, I guess we'll still have until Monday to redo our moves (btw. I'll go kayaking for a lil bit, so probably will shut up until tomorrow evening).

Noticed also that Mindy's written a couple of times in HAKs thread so they seem to be an item.
Similarily NobleHelium has written in Serdoas thread. That will probably make him a fair bit stronger as "nitpicking Noble" will add consistency to Serdoas play, put a slight damper on his hunt for wonders and probably make him slightly more aware of the outer world (unless they border Commodore).

Replayed our actions.

Dtay and Commodore have renamed their empires to Parliament of Beasts and Fiat lux. Don't know who is who or if it has the slightest bit of importance.
Also renamed our civ on a whim to 1808-09 veterans. Don't really know why, so feel free to change it back if it pleases you.

Logged in again and changed it back to "Dutch Empire". Some people don't like it when you have a strange name and it's probably an unnecessary thing to annoy people with.

Also checked the map dimensions. According to GJ it's 100x80 toroidal and according to our score there are 4244 land tiles.
That means that there is 47% water on the map and on average we have 185 land tiles per player.
That's actually more than I thought we would have or what was agreed upon?
On one hand I don't really like it as I'm used to cramped maps and it makes managing a successful late game empire more of a chore, on the other hand our organized trait could see more of a use, later conflicts means shorter period until we get our civ bonuses and if we're lucky we might even get some astro islands...

More land, well in a way it could be good for us, we don't have early bonuses for warfare and having enough land reduces incentive to war early. Also with enough land bottleneck for expansion will be being able to support it financially.

Do you consider yourself a lucky person? If so, please get us some good stuff from hut nod.

Well, I do consider myself lucky in that I was born to loving parents, got more than my fair share of looks and brains, have a wide circle of caring friends and currently a great girlfriend and that I generally manage to take life with an appropriate amount of a laid back attitude, but I guess it wasn't that kind of lucky you were talking about? shades

I think that whoever gets around to the save first after the turn has rolled could pop the hut. popcorn
Playing clock games isn't much appreciated on this site, but I guess it could be good practice that whenever there's a possibility of us being in a race for a hut/settling location, we try to play early in the turn before the question of turn splits arises. Also, though most people are quite relaxed about it, I'm fairly certain that there'll be a few in this game who'll keep track if someone shows a tendency to often be among the latest to pass the turn on. PYFT wars are more joked about than realized into practice, but I'd say that sometimes they can weigh into a decision if someone wants to attack or not.

I logged into the game after the turn had rolled,
moved the scout towards the hut and...

I mean, it's far from great, but it's still useful. Now we only need to find lots more of them sneaky huts!

What is great though is that we found two new food resources! jive
For instance we could get a pretty nice second city on that plains hill between the foods. Or a decent one on the riverside plains 1N that doesn't need a road for trade routes.
I guess we still want to check out that city that would share the cows and use the jungled silk fairly soon though, so perhaps the scout should head in that general direction (i.e. S-SW next turn)?

btw. 21 out of 23 people settled on the first turn.
Gavagai didn't settle on purpose (I guess), but was logged in for ten minutes this turn as well and still hasn't settled, so would be interesting to know what's going on therepopcorn.
REM didn't settle first turn either, but I don't think he actually finished turn so that might even be a mistake?bang Annoying one for him if that's the case.

Oh and BRick played for Tasunke.
Tasunke actually suggested in the sign up thread that the game starts on Monday with a 48h first turn so might have been preoccupied?? If not, GJ has found a potential replacement in the form of Tsargon.
Have you by any chance had an account at badgame and seen what kind of player he might be?
[According to Borsche there's a decent number of players there, but the quality isn't the best, with him being the third strongest and GJ the fourth (if I remember correctly). Tsargon also seems to have a fair bit of respect for GJ, so my guess is that he's not the strongest player in the pool??]noidea

Ok result. Next scout move sounds ok, I'd like to get a look at the spot S of cows. Then do a circle around the cap to check for early city sites. Can you play until weekend?

I actually have lurked badgame, Tsargon is somewhat weaker player than Borsche. In bgpb3 he took quite a lot of losses against Borsche+Boak team in their renaissance era warfare, making tactiacal mistakes like not taking hill terrain but open and getting his stack wiped. Also his building game and economy was weaker.

And that ranking is just troll rolf, GJ is the strongest in bgpb as far as I know and then Borsche (although Boak is feared there also, as people who get their asses handed to them are "boaked" cool). Well being trolly, insulting and weird is really what badgame is about, if you like political incorrectness then definitely check it out.

Badgame players seem to me also more aggressive than in RB. One difference is NAPs in diplo games; for some reason people in rb tend to consider NAPs almost holy and NAP stabbing as a big sin (I as a former diplomacy player appreciate a good backstab backstab ), in badgame when someone NAPstabbed the response was just being sorry not to be the first to NAPstab.
