RBPB4 [SPOILERS] - De Gaulle of the Egyptians

Lord Parkin Wrote:Most cities are getting Barracks now as well, in preparation for finally building a proper military soon. (A few scattered War Chariots and Axemen somehow don't quite cut it any more in this world, for some reason. lol)

Is there any chance we can get a full civilization view?

Hmm, really? My gut says otherwise, but my gut is often wrong. I'll have to do some careful testing to check. Wouldn't want 1000 beakers to get lost in a vacuum somehow. (Despite 1000 beakers being somewhat small change for me these days...) tongue

Well, I checked it out, and it certainly seems that you can go full-bore with max overflow and max research into a tech like Archery and not lose any beakers. Not sure if you can continuously repeat that process with cheap techs and never lose anything... but if T-Hawk says there's no limit to beaker overflow, and I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary with my limited testing, then I guess I believe it. (If someone could post the link to where he proves his point, that'd be great.) smile

Overview shot at 1060 AD, as requested. Sorry for the mess of signs - you can see through them if you look hard though.

There's no easy way to toggle signs on and off as far as I know, which is a pain. (Now, that would be a useful thing to have in the game. Or maybe no-one else is quite as crazy as me with the signs, so it doesn't matter to anyone else. lol)

I've never tested rigorously on beaker overflow, but I've done things like research Drama - Music very late in the game and had much more than one turn's worth of overflow beakers after that.

It's easier to understand if you understand the reason behind limiting hammer overflow. If not for that rule, then you could store up an enormous hammer surplus by repeatedly building cheap units, then crash-complete a wonder in one turn with the surplus. That's not necessary for beakers since you can't repeatedly research cheap technologies, and because excessive beaker production in a single turn doesn't really create any competitive imbalance (we do it all the time with binary research.)

Thanks for the info T-Hawk. I'll set up a rigorous test tomorrow with multiple sequential cheap techs followed by expensive techs at very high research (compared against the same research into just the expensive techs), and let you know the results. I presume (and hope) that you're right that there should be no wastage. smile

So now the 1-turn list comprises:

Music
Feudalism
Guilds
Banking
Economics

I wonder how many more techs I can 1-turn in a row. Could do 12-15 if I really pushed it I suppose, although some of those I don't want/need. Perhaps I'll reach 8-10 in a row though. Hmm, I wonder if that'll set some kind of record for this point of a MP game? Could well be that it's been done by some folks here before though, I don't know. smile

I'm trying to decide which of the Compass-Optics-Astronomy and Gunpowder-RP-Rifling paths are better to go through first. (Another option is HBR-MT I guess.) Any thoughts are welcome. It probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference either way, they're all techs I'll need before long regardless.

I say go down the gunpowder-line first, just in case. With rifling you could have a decent defending army in a very short period of time.

Well, if you can 1-turn all of those techs, I suppose it doesn't matter. smile I guess the first path gives you more benefits technologically, while the second is better for getting a high-tech military.
