Game down since I need to clean the fan filters on the server. Will be back within an hour or so.
As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. After reading/hearing other people's opinions, I'd like to "Unvote: Pause not requested - Let it roll!" as well.
I'm convinced novice, I'll rescind my vote. I've included AT's change from the tech thread too. It read like Dazed might have meant to change his vote, but he didn't say it, so that leaves us tied on the "what to do when a pause is not requested poll" (unless Q's vote change also includes voting for the "pause and get a lurker to play" option):
Let It Roll: 17 votes
Barry Lyndon, Boldly Going Nowhere, BRickAstley, Cheater Hater, Cyneheard, darrelljs, dazedroyalty, Dhalphir, HitAnyKey, Jowy, Molach, MYKI, Nakor, plako, The Black Sword, wetbandit, yuris125
Pause with 1h left on clock for 6 hours and then resume: 13 votes
AutomatedTeller, Bacchus, dtay, HitAnyKey, MYKI, novice, Old Harry, plako, Qgqqqqq, scooter, spacetyrantxenu, The Black Sword, wetbandit
Pause with 1h left on clock for 12 hours and then resume: 7 votes
MYKI, novice, plako, Qgqqqqq, Ruff_Hi, spacetyrantxenu, The Black Sword
Pause with 1h left on clock for 24 hours and then resume: 4 votes
Hashoosh, Mardoc, Ruff_Hi, The Black Sword
Pause with 1h left on clock indefinitely: 3 votes
Azza, Mardoc, WilliamLP
Pause with 1h left and get a lurker to play turn ASAP: 17 votes
AutomatedTeller, Azza, Bacchus, Boldly Going Nowhere, Cheater Hater, dtay, Hashoosh, HitAnyKey, MYKI, novice, Old Harry, pindicator, plako, Ruff_Hi, spacetyrantxenu, The Black Sword, Whosit

So that doesn't help at all .
Anyone else want to change a vote?

Pity that I was away all weekend and couldn't take part in the discussion
For me, the way to lose interest in a game is slow turn pace. In a game with 12-15 players, I would be strongly in favour of using pauses liberally, as can be evident from the Pitboss 17 tech thread. In a 34 player game, I think the only way to maintain reasonable pace is to be strict with pauses
If someone misses a turn due to an unpredictable emergency, I'm sure we can afford a reload. If someone misses a turn because they couldn't find a minute to post in the forums - sorry, tough luck
I will be happy with whatever is decided, as long as it doesn't slow down the turn pace. However, the stricter the policy on non-requested pauses is, the happier I will be

Agree with yuris125. All the unvotes in the poll made me a sad panda.

This is what i meant, essentially, as well. I favor a strict "let it roll" when it comes to "oops! I forgot" and other non-essential reasons for missing. My earlier post was merely to disagree with the presumption of some that any reasonable person will always be able to post within 24 hours. When a turn is not played, it should be reloaded on case-by-case with a clear precedent that forgetfulness, drunkeness, playing other games, etc. etc. are not reloadable causes for missing.

As one of the forgetful players I would like to voice in that even though I didn't vote in the poll, I have no problems at all with just letting the turns roll if I should miss a turn. I feel strongly that my forgetfulness should not bother the other players of the game.

Turns out that I won't be able to get home for quite some time tonight. I'm hoping that a friendly lurker is inclined to help me, I've left some instructions on how to play the turn. Thanks in advance.
Edit: In case it matters to anyone, in light of the poll discussions, I will be at work for a long time.
