Quote:In other news... I think we'll probably want Democracy next for SOL, although I'm still contemplating the benefits of earlier Rifles.
I guess, since you plan to get both soon anyway, the question is which benefit is more important to get faster.

Decided to go with Democracy first. We'll see if that ends up being the right decision. Shouldn't make too much of a difference anyway... we'll have Rifling before too long at the current rate.
We've now got a number of Jails finished, which has got us back on track on the espionage front. Quite handy buildings for us at this point of the game, really. Within a few turns we should be back at par with everyone in EP's (despite Locke, Nakor, Luddite and Moogle all having spent substantial amounts on us... as well as other folks to a lesser extent). After we're back at par all around, we can start focusing more on certain people if we want.

Have you done an ETA for how many turns the SoL will take?

Hi LP, could we see your cities screen?

Considering the benefit will be somewhere on the scale from 90 hammers per turn to 125 or 250 beakers per turn (depending on Engineers or Scientists and Representation or not), it's definitely well worth a build.

We got a Great Artist, which is good. I was worried that we were going to get yet another Merchant, which would have made things tricky. Anyway, the Great Artist will allow us to extend our Golden Age a further 12 turns, so that's nice.
Locke declared war on Adlain this turn. Had seen that coming from a long way off. Will be more interested to see if Moogle and Rego join in as well.
Locke and Nakor are the only nations to play so far this turn, and both closed borders with us when they played. Will wait and see if any other nations do so. Not entirely unexpected if several of them do, although it's a bit of a daft move. Folks closing borders only cost us a few bpt each, and cost themselves at least as much. In fact it works out worse for them, because their breakeven bpt rates are 3-4x lower than ours, so relatively speaking we lose far less than they do. Plus of course it stops the most hostile nations from buzzing around our territory with pesky spying units like they have been, which is a nice bonus. I wonder if they realise they're doing us more of a favour than themselves by closing borders.
If it gets really bad (and I doubt it will), there's always the option of going into Mercantalism. Though I think we'll still do better with Free Market unless pretty much everyone in the game closes borders with us. Let's wait and see, anyway.

Also on the plus side, Locke closing borders with me means I now have no qualms about gifting Horses and Copper to Adlain to ensure he'll have access throughout the war - even if his own sources are pillaged. So yeah, shot yourself in the foot there buddy.

Ended up being Locke, Nakor, Plako, Moogle and Luddite that closed borders with us last turn. Particularly unimpressed with Plako and Luddite - especially Plako, given that we helped save him from exactly the same thing happening back when he was the clear leader. Seems the standard he expects from us in a partnership isn't the same standard he's willing to reciprocate. What a jerk.
Slowly working on emails to all the parties involved, will post them here when they're done. I guess we can thank them for making it glaringly clear who our enemies are in advance of NAPs ending.
In more awesome news - we finally popped the back-line Iron that we really should have had all game (since literally everyone else got at least one, including Rego). We're now no longer disadvantaged relative to anyone else in that respect, so our future Frigate and Cannon production will no longer be at all vulnerable to pillaging. Not that it probably would be anyway, but good to have a backup.

Picked up Rifling and switched to Mercentalism/Nationalism/Theocracy. Pretty clear that most of our neighbours are hostile to us at this point. Time to start building up troops.
Started drafting 5 Rifles/turn - we'll continue in that way for the forseeable future. They each start with a promotion (2 XP), which isn't bad. We've jumped from #9 to #6 in power in one turn. Should continue to climb from hereon in.
