If you guys can get a Commando Panzer to snipe the Statue of Liberty or Kremlin, I will draw that picture.

Minor note: Panzers won't be able to be commandos. The only units we'll be able to do it with are gunpowder units (units that get free C1). Here's that list in vaguely chronological-ish order including number of techs away we are if we directly beeline (assumption: Electricity is complete):

* Infantry: 0
* Marines: 1
* Anti-Tank: 1 (not very useful for us - Panzers are basically anti-tank tanks)
* Paratroopers: 1 (niche)
* SAM Infantry: 2 (niche)
* Mobile SAM: 6
* Mechanized Infantry: 5

Only the latter two have two moves. Commando Infantry and Marines would be very useful (1 move on rails is still a lot), but the big prize is definitely the Mechs. Anyway, our game may well come down to whether or not we can use them to break up a spaceship attempt.

I think at this point it's safe to say, that you have no "safe" options at all, and guessing wrong is pretty much GG. So...actually a hell of a lot like an actual nation in an actual war for survival lol :D

Commando paratroopers are almost useless in base BTS, unfortunately. frown

Confession: I've never built a Paratrooper in my life. I barely know how they work. This game is 11 years old, and I've easily spent over 1,000 hours playing it.

Hey, I know that feeling. I hadn't ever used them either until PB22... and then I discovered that my freshly minted Commando Paratroopers couldn't attack (which I knew) or even raze improvements (which I didn't). Basically, all you can do is throw them out there, hope they aren't intercepted, and then wait for them to die. =/

Can't blame you, Paratroopers without Blitz don't really have any common combat applications. But think of it this way, if you come up with some creative ways to put them to use here, you'll be breaking new ground in an 11-year-old game after over 1,000 hours of study smile

Finally broke my long time lurking RB just to mention that while paratroopers are kinda iffy as an attack unit, they can paradrop then capture empty cities. mischief

Pity you cant tech to gunships easily though.

Busy thread since yesterday, especially given that we're apparently still waiting on REM to play his turn! I think scooter summed up our position very well:

Yes, I agree with this. Unfortunately, I'm not as confident that Dreylin is about to come riding to our rescue in the next few turns. I see it as more of a 50/50 shot - maybe he will jump into this war, maybe not. Continuing to fight is a gamble... but then again, signing peace would also be a gamble. As scooter wrote, tough choices with no easy answers in sight.

I guess my overall thinking is the same as before: let's watch and see what REM does, while being willing to pounce on pindicator and attack on any given turn.

Hi Mousey! Good to see a longtime reader / firsttime poster. smile This could be potentially useful information, given how many teams (including us) have empty cities in the backlines. We to stuff some kind of live unit, even if incredibly outdated, into each city once anyone discovers Flight. And maybe we can get the drop on someone else later on if they don't realize this fact. shhh A Navigation II carrier going on a suicide mission to paradrop several Commando paratroopers, who would then ride the rails and walk into empty enemy cities... It would be legendary.

So Dreylin made peace with REM on T330.

We're waiting for REM to finish T337. That means if we stayed in, we'd just have to stall REM for two turns - T338 and T339. On T340, we'd get to see if Dreylin declares. Unless REM does something this turn that's extremely bad for us, I think we ought to stay in for two more turns and then evaluate after Dreylin plays T340. I think we wait for Dreylin to play, and then if he doesn't declare on that turn, we go ahead and offer REM peace.

I think it's worth stringing things out a couple turns to find out for sure what he's going to do. It's too important of a decision to simply guess at what he's going to do. My thought is to go ahead next turn and send Dreylin a 2g for 2g trade (on T338) and hope that's a signal for him to join on T340.

Any thoughts on this? I don't see a big downside.
