Turn 91 played.
Ruff has apparently scouted the one-tile island south of the fish. We won't be settling there. Haggling with Pegasus over the price of missionaries: Ironically and conveniently, after ending turn we got a free spread of christianity to Gut Shot, where our missionary is headed: Oh and I offered OB to TT.
I have to run.
Good work. Man you have too much spare time... :-)
Right, so last night's chat. It was a rambling old chat, but was useful to set out our vision for the next part of the game. I'm only going to show edited highlights here. Pegasus Novice was uncomfortable that Pegasus is too comfortable and felt our NAP with him was too long. He can go after TT and we can't touch him for a long time (until T130?). We may try to take some of his land on the northern continent. Novice thought Pegasus's best play would be to tech Civil Service via Feudalism. He could perhaps attack TT with maces and cats. City planning Gut Shot will probably be our Moai city. For Kojak we will farm the riverside tiles and cottage the dry grassland. Sailboats will line up the Colossus after the Great Lighthouse. DMH will grow to size 4 while building the barracks, then building some much-needed workers. The capital will be a good wonder builder once the hills are mined. Wonders Unsurprisingly, novice expressed a desire for more wonders, mentioning the Great Library, the Parthenon and the Mausoleum, whilst I mentioned the Statue of Zeus. All but the MoM will be less than 100 base hammers with all the multipliers (Industrious, resource, forge, OR, Bureau). Tech paths Code of Laws is next after Currency, in time for the Great Prophet to bulb Civil Service on T102 (with a double revolt to Bureau and OR). After that, possible lines are Aesthetics->Literature->Music or Iron Working->Machinery. Other techs to get are Archery, Construction, Calendar. A third option which novice mentioned was a beeline for Education for a super-early Oxford, via Civil Service and Paper. An outside-the-box option is to bulb Education with our Great Scientist, then run five scientists to get another Great Scientist as quickly as possible for an Academy (whislt running a golden age through the free Great Artist from Music). Relationship with Ruff Ruff will get Alphabet soon presumably, at which point he can hopefully give us information on our opponents' techs (including whether they have Aesthetics or not). It won't be long before he starts stealing techs from us. He's given us a favourable border agreement. If he wants us to tech certain techs we can ask for payment. Civ We probably talk about Civ too much...
Ooh, so close to getting Currency next turn. I can get it to -6gpt vs 6g in the bank by working the silver and -4gpt if Gut Shot works a coastal tile. Both of these are non-optimal food-wise but would get us the Currency bonus one turn earlier, potentially.
Incidentally, I'm happy to give Pegasus the missionary for free based on what he has said. It's a goodwill gift since he is giving us useful information on TT's troop composition.
T92 played and we discovered Currency. Our GNP is 151, more than double the next player. Our crop yield is 105, rival best is 66.
I assigned the gold to Top Kicker, it can work it until the cow pasture is complete. Kojak is working a new farm, DMH took over the grassland hill mine. Gut shot worked a coast, it doesn't hurt any because it's waiting for the granary chop anyway and has no better tiles to work before the borders expand. Sailboats worked a coast to grow in 1. That got us enough gold to finish Currency. DMH is building another worker, then we can grow on the barracks and chop a settler perhaps at size 4, for the pigs? Big Slick should start working an engineer again next turn. Pocket Bullets should start a market. NFD should start a library. Sailboats can build a galley until it's size 5, then double whip it. Speed Limit knows no limit to its growth, it's been growing every 2nd turn since the granary was complete. It'll be size 6 next turn working only improved tiles. Keep growing, the forge should complete in time to raise the happy cap there even further. The workers around DMH should farm the flood plain next turn. Ilari, at Pocket Bullets, should cottage the tile 1NE of the copper. Missionary is in Speed Limit, ready to move over to Pegasus.
I have to run.
Hang on a minute, galley in Sailboats...
![]() Some more worker names here. Did I notice we had 12 now? Big Slick needs some work. Can we divert one near DMH to go and mine some of those hills? Let's try and get regular updates from Pegasus on TT's chariot. Whilst it would be foolish for him to snipe a worker or two, we don't want to risk it. (I presume he can't take a city because we can emergency whip a spearman from scratch if needed.) spacemanmf Wrote:Hang on a minute, galley in Sailboats... Big Slick doesn't really need the attention, as the next three citizens there will be working as engineers and scientists. Our missionary will scout for TT's chariot next turn. Anyway TT accepted OB with us this turn, so a sneak attack seems unlikely. We have two workers farming the wheat by Speed Limit, but they will move northeast soon to cottage the rest of the flood plains, so I don't think we have anything to fear. I'm thinking the workers around DMH farm that flood plains, then divert one to Kojak, and the others can road to NFD and set up the pigs city. Yeah maybe we need one worker to mine some of Gut shot's hills as well, so it can build Moai.
I have to run.
It doesn't look like the save will come tonight. Anyway, I suppose you're itching to play some turns, Spaceman, so I guess Pegasus is waiting for me to go to bed.
The fact that Ruff revealed that peak island must mean he has a port somewhere on the southern sea. And we've already seen that Pegasus' newest city, Anfield, is on the northern coast. So we can't expect the Great Lighthouse to be a lock, but I still feel good about our chances.
I have to run.
