Quote:Hi there!
Thanks for welcoming me to the game.
You will have seen that I have made peace with Elkad in game. That was my first aim of the game, for me to be able to make my own decisions and not be landed in a war without any meaning to me. I need time to settle in and figure out my plans.
Needless to say, I am happy to listen to any proposals which you may wish to throw my way. As I said in the Email thread, history of this game means nothing and I will make decisions based on what i deem best for my civ. My main aim is a peaceful race for the finish but to me that seems very unrealistic with the general gist I have gained from conversations with other players. It seems the world will very soon fall apart at the seams and I need to decide which way I shall go.
It seems we are the two leaders right now, but that doesn't make us rivals yet, especially with so many other civs still around who can make runs to the finish. I will leave the ball in your court if you would like to work with me, if so then I shall see what you have to offer.

Quote:Hi Twinkletoes,
I appreciate your email. Unfortunately, it's a bit hard to take you at face value when all of a sudden your "anti-Elkad" stack has magically appeared on my borders. Perhaps it is all just coincidence, but that is the nature of the game....
I'm not sure what else you want from me with "the ball in my court" - I thought I gave some decent ideas in my first post. I am attaching my original email to dsplaisted and shadyforce (that I mentioned yesterday) to this email.
So I guess I will "return serve" and send the ball "back into your court" :-) - seriously though if you want to chat about it let me know.
He has about 11 infantry,4 MG, a few artillery and like 6 cavs near Newtown. I have more than enough to wipe that out so I'm not sure what he's playign at. Maybe there are other units in the fog, though I have city visibility on much of shady's land

And email to shady
Quote:So it appears that Twinkletoes has signed peace with Elkad. In his email to me he said that he was looking to not be tied down by past commitments and only wanted to do what was best for his civ. I'm not sure what he has told you or what your guys' relationship is.
Obviously I have noticed that it appears that his stack is somehow sitting on my border now, so that certainly is.... interesting.
You'll have of course noted that it is T215. I saw that your border cities were primed with units, which was expected of course.
I guess we should probably come to some sort of decision soon, right? I sent an email to you awhile back talking about a game long NAP. You refered me to Daniel. I emailed him and got nothing, and then he left the game. So does Twinkletoes' arrival change anything?
I'll be around tomorrow if you want to chat about it

Quote:Hi Elkad,
I noticed that you had signed peace with Twinkletoes and that shady's army that was at the gates of Utica has retreated one step further.
Do you know (or can you share) what is going on there? I'm a bit concerned that they are coming my way, and if they are, okay that's fine I can handle it, but I would appreciate any insight / forewarning you might have.
Also, I still think that you would have good odds at destroying that army, should your diplomatic deals allow it.
If ever you wanted to achieve a blaze of glory, seems like now would be the time!!!

I really hosed up the attack. I wasn't plannign on doing anything but razing the one coastal city but then I forgot to load the units on the boat the turn before, so when I loaded them on, I only then realized that they couldn't attack the same turn

It's currently T205, and T206 I will finish Flight. The techs I need with current research times are:
* Industrialism (10)
* Radio (Trade)
* Rocketry (8 )
* Satellites (11)
* Plastics (12)
* Fission (8 )
* Fusion (14)
* Computers (12)
* Composites (13)
* Superconductors (12)
* Genetics (12)
* Robotics (14)
So that is 126 turns of research . If we assume maybe a 20% increase in research speed, as well as trading for 1/4 of those beakers, we've got more like 75 turns till the "Apollo" moment, call it T280. VERY rough estimate, but probably enough that I can start making plans for things.
Another thought I considered is that depending on how close other civs are to various victory conditions, I may be able to launch a really SLOW spaceship (like 1 thruster, 1 engine). If nobody can catch me because I've really gone out of the blue (i.e. everyone's far from culture and nobody has even built Apollo yet and woudln't be able to build all the necessary parts to beat me to AC, then I can launch a slow one.
Still need to figure out the exact mechanics of how many thrusters / engines corresponds to how many turns, but I got plenty of (like 75! ) turns to do that!
Okay - time to update this. It's now T216 and Industrialism was just in.
* Rocketry (5)
* Satellites (9)
* Plastics (8)
* Fission (7)
* Fusion (11)
* Computers (8)
* Composites (11)
* Superconductors (9)
* Genetics (10)
* Robotics (11)
That's 89 turns. Assuming a 10% increase in research ability (down from 20% earlier) and trading for 20% of the beakers (down from 25), that's 65 turns from now, or T281. So we're still tracking about the same.
Current deal is Rocketry for Plastics with Broker.

At normal speed, it's fairly simple:
24t - 2t for every thruster or engine built (maximum of 20t, minimum of 10t, then). Quick speed's the messy one.
Also, I don't think your times for research are fully taking the 20% pre-req boni into account, which should save a few turns.

Quote:Well as you will have likely seen by now, I declared war on shadyforce last turn. I guess the ball really IS in your court now.
I hope that your army truly is just passing through "on its long way back to where [you] want them". I would be remiss if I did not point out, however, that some of my military advisors questioned the logistics of an army on a long trip ending its turn on a non-railroaded tile....
My offer is to divide up shadyforce. And not really a division. I have no real territorial aims out of him - and I've told him that much, which was the reason that I offered him (and Mali) a game long NAP as security, which you both have apparently declined. I'm more than willing to let you (And/or Elkad) keep the vast majority of Persian lands.
And if you don't believe me when I say that, the proof is in the last war, which was everyone vs. Exploit. In the western theater, it was myself, Dreylin and sunrise, and even though our armies were equivalent, they took all the cities (you can see them on the map), while I kept for myself only a 1 tile island city. Even when Exploit GAVE me all his cities, I kept none of them and instead divided up the cities between the allied forces. You'll see that you yourself have some of them, including the tastefully named "Dont Sass Rego" :-)
I'd be more than happy to give you the lion's share of cities if you join me. With a potentially hostile Broker faction looming in a few turns, can you really afford to make an enemy out of me?

Mmmm that could be true. I'm just going off of F6 which you're right, wouldn't take that into account.
And thanks for the tip on the SS times!

Quote:After further consideration last night I believe our stated goal of tech trading, specifically gaining a lead on the nation formerly lead by DSP has been achieved. Our current tech rates are sufficient to ensure that lead stays in place even without trades. I believe we are better served to tech on our own and slow progress to the end of the tree for the time being. This does not preclude future trades but at this time we dont want to lock in future trades.
I am still going towards plastics as previously stated to avoid a duplication in the event that this situation changes.
