Ive been doing a lot of reading, specially sulla's site (which is awesome, i almost enjoy reading the reports more than actually playing lol ), but i am still relatively new. Been playing on noble lately (and about to win diplomatically i think). However, if you guys dont mind me i would love to join you and learn from better players.

Thanks

Hmm sure. It was Me, sulla, Gogf and Javier against Speaker, Knupp, Yosh and Manaic. They went religious path right away, we went military path right away. Unfortunately, the point of going military path right away (as far as I know), is to launch a quick rush and halt thier growth, we were unable to do that.

I think all of us were random civs, and they got pretty lucky draws. Manaic turned out to be Gandhi all the way in the back of their side. Guess what happens next? The other 3 were Egypt for Speaker, Huayana for Yosh and England for Knupp..

Yosh was Huayana, he started pushing out Quechas trying to get one of us early, it didnt work out too well for him. We were pretty close to taking out Yosh at one point, he had 6 quechas on defense in his capital, we assembled a force of 3 axeman and 1 warrior, joint effort between me and sulla next to his capital. We attack him, take out 3 quechas I believe. Then next turn reinforcements totalling 3 chariots arrive from Knupp. They were saved...

Problem was we had no gameplan at all, they had Gandhi in the background pumping out wonders and the other 3 in the front lines producing military. Pretty good plan for them...

The way it ended was like this... They had assembled a huge points lead, because they got all the religions. Our only chance was to take out one of them... Since im a somewhat bad player in war... I gifted my army of 6 praets, 4 catupults, 3 spears, 2 axeman to Gogf.. Speaker had assembled a monster military around this time, running theocracy and police state...

Eventually, Speaker took out sulla.. sulla lost a city very early in the game, so speaker only had to take out 1 city to take out sulla(which was a bad break for us). Then he absolutely crippled me. Our last hope was that monster stack.. which was now composed of around ~20 units. However we had other problems... Gfog had no money.. we didnt have currency, and now the units were disbanding cry

Eventually, I think 4-5 ? units got disbanded before he could reach Cuzco, I was able to avoid getting killed by Speaker because he was now defending Yosh's capital from the monster stack. all defenders from Yosh, Knupp and Speaker were too much for even that stack to handle.

When we couldnt take Cuzco, we conceded :P.. I think around 25 turns were left at that point.

Sorry if theres any discrepancies, I posted as best as I could remember. tongue

Let me add to Quack's summary. smile

Speaker and I ended up facing off against one another on the western edge of the map. I had gone random and drawn Peter, whose traits (Expansive/Philosophical) don't really match up very well with an Ancient start, nor does Russia's unique unit... but I have no complaints because I drew an awesome start. Corn, two gold tiles, stone, and iron all in range of the first city. It was a great site! I started with a scout, and so since I was effectively "down" a warrior from the get-go, I decided to build a worker first and not try to beeline units at the other side right away. As expected, Speaker got his team to send their units down towards us from the start, doing a good job of getting pressure on our civs. But we reached Archery before Speaker's warrior could do any damage to me; I slaved an archer and killed his warrior and that was that. So far so good!

I then trained a pair of axes and send them to the north to intercept anything incoming. Following that, I built a settler and headed towards a nice spot with horses and rice nearby. Then the disaster of the game for me: with two axes in the area, I founded my new city near one of Yosh's quechuas. I knew they were there - KNEW it! - but I thought they had moved already, and couldn't reach my new city. Well - they had not yet moved on the turn, and so they moved next to my new city, which caused a click-fest to save the city with my axe, and... I lost. smoke Never, ever should have been in that position in the first place, a very bad mistake on my part. All I had to do was wait one turn to found the city! For making a bad move when I KNEW it was a bad move, that deserves the special "pipe" weed smiley. [Image: pipe.gif]

That probably decided the game there. Instead of having a strong second city to help out, I had to spend 7 more turns re-training that settler in Moscow. Because of that, Speaker's mini-stack of 4 axes (which I saw coming a MILE away!) was able to get down into my territory and harass me for a while. And Speaker was effectively playing 3 cities to my 2 for the rest of the game - not good odds. I was just getting my third and fourth cities productive at the time that his inevitable monster stack showed up. I did a lot of damage when Speaker's gigantic elephant/cat/axe/war chariot stack showed up, but the simple fact is that I didn't have enough production to stop it. (Let me also say - Egypt is one of the BEST possible civs to have in Ancient Age MP too!) The game was decided as soon as Speaker killed me off.

So I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't lost the early city, but things may have been different. Most likely, we would have survived long enough for Speaker's team to win by points. lol Maniac's Gandhi in the back lines was very effective at getting them critical wonders. I'd like to thank my teammates for doing a very good job and all surviving in this game. Quack held off a nasty attack from Speaker at the end, which was fun to watch. Nice work! thumbsup I'm the only one who was killed, so I guess I was the loser last night. crazyeye See you next week!
