That would be awesome. I watched Sulla's cast with the new replay system and the only thing it really needed were the healthbars. And if you see that the programmers of the replay tool release 1-2 updates per week, it's probably going to improve a lot in the future.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. You see champion select and Ashe, Twisted Fate, Annie and Ezreal are locked in
Once I've played 5 games with jungle Malphite in a row...

If you can't carry 4 baddies v 5 baddies then 1200 is where you should be. Same problem with me. You have to be like a real 1800-1900 player to do that though.
Best way to get higher though is to duo with someone who you trust as a jungle/tank, or as a carry. If they play carry, you play jungle/tank, and vice versa.

Just yesterday a solo queuer Urgot was more concerned with figuring that my Amumu stats (0/4/8; rather decent for a jungle tank who is forced to tank 4v5 because of a troll teammate) are a result of my national heritage. Was kind of hilarious in hindsight, although maybe not because he preferred to sit around in the base and rant about my apparent unwashed hillbilliness while loudly guessing the year in which "I get to speak German again" rather than participate in teamfights.

I'm still a ranked noob but I find that people often confuse "carry" with "have a good KDA ratio" instead of whether you actually carry the team to victory. Now, in a lot of situations these are the same, but at lower levels and lower ELO you can typically carry just by non-stop farming and pushing towers while ignoring teamfights. Literally. Ignore the 4v5 dumb fight that Tristana starts by jumping on their tank in the middle of their team or whatever. Your team loses that with or without you. Keep farming and keep pushing.
Good champs for this are Udyr (jungle), Yi (jungle), Sivir (whatever lane). They can farm like mad and push down towers like mad. When all the enemy team is screwing around, push a lane. Stare hard at the minimap the entire time you're doing this. If they send one or two after you, either run away to another lane and push that or wait until they go away and resume pushing. If you're past the 35 minute mark you can probably straight up kill anyone 1v1 because you will have 150 cs and they will have 50. If the whole team comes, try to run but you will likely die but your team will usually be competent to take a tower or two of their own. Drop some wards while you're doing this and teleport back when you revive and keep pushing. Never stop pushing. You will win more often than not.
Now if the game is close and both teams are competent, you probably want to help out with teamfights, but in general split pushing just totally takes advantage of the massive disorganization of low level solo queue games.
I'm actually worried about how effective this strategy is - I've been on a monster winning streak since I started doing this and I'm positive it won't work at higher levels. So now I'm concerned that I'm not practicing enough on the skills to succeed at higher ELOs.

You probably won't like my answer, but there's no other way really. Grind. Keep playing game after game. As long as you win at least 1% more games than you lose, you will rise in Elo.
Just be prepared for how long this is going to take. To make things easy let's say you win 60% of the games you play, each one is 30 minutes long, and you gain or lose 10 Elo with every game. You'll be gaining about 20 Elo for every 5 hours of games you've played.
I never had the patience for that.

The problem with solo queue ranked is that human nature dictates that *everyone* thinks they're better than they actually are, and they're only 1200 because of poor teammates. Because of this, the vast majority take carries and assassins, simply because they are more likely to have a direct impact on the outcome of a game in that role, which creates imbalanced teams, which means... you know the rest.
Tried Ashe last night without IE (well, I built it as my fifth item, as the game went on ages, and it made sense). My feeling is that I was stronger in the mid-game going IE first, but not as strong towards the end of the game. The new build really came into its own past the 40-minute mark, when I was melting carries and tanks alike with BT/BC/LW/IE. Doing 400 base damage and critting for 1000+ is really quite fun! Also, I had to be much more careful in positioning during teamfights, as I didn't have the extra Phantom Dancer move speed to get me out of trouble.
I'll certainly use it again though, particularly if I'm up against a lot of tanks...
On a different note, there haven't been many people on recently. Have a few negative posts here put you off? I know solo queue has its problems, but it's still a really fun game with a full team IMO. So come and play!

My own friends have been playing less too. But I'm still not ready to give it up. At least not until D3 or GW2 comes out.
My ingame id is "Sire Bruce" if any wants to play sometime.

I think the problem is that everyone wants to have an uber-leet score at the end of the game. Everyone wants to be the 10/5/0 carry, nobody the 0/5/20 tank or support, even though the latter might have done a better job.

Aparently CLG was able to try a game vs the new bots that are coming out on the tourney realm. The game was about as nailbitingly close as you'd expect.
