RBPBEM FfH V [SPOILERS] Sareln of the Amurites

Turn 4:

Played before I did the simulation. So Warrior is still blissfully headed towards the Lizard-lair. Got a good look at the tables and decided I didn't want to risk it. Hopefully the lizardman will spawn before anyone's scouts get there, that would be awkward.

Turn 5:

Lizardman spawns, so all of my schenanigans are moot, oh well alright.

In slightly sunnier news, we've met the Clan! Wait, I'm next to a rushing CIV again, 'fer crying outloud really? cry I'm just a humble builder guys, honest, now I'm flashing back to FfHPBEM1! alright

Well, let's see here, this means I need to look at the Clan again and see how fast they can get their rush on. I suspect rather quickly. rolleye

I'm afraid this calls for BW beeline and muchos asskissing lol

And about the rush pace - that depends how sustainable gains do they expect. An absolute minimum for something successful would be probably warrens ( Masonry ) + copper warriors ( BW, Exploration ), but that would be economical suicide. If they want to actually afford a rush, Calendar ( or even Festivals ) would be required as demonstrated in my game.

So, summing up - minimum 5 techs ( 940b ) for about 60 turns of research, preferably 7/8 ( another 300-400b ) for 80 turns research. Anything earlier should be shrugged off easily.

You've been Priest of Winter rushed. There are only a few comparably bad things, pyre zombies, T<20 Doviello and Tasunke warcry rush. Anything else can be beaten by sufficient bronze warriors.

I'm also helped along by the fact that they cannot break my capital pre-seige in all liklihood. Once I get chops the only defensive terrain they can attack the capital from will need to cross a river. Combined with the hill terrain and the warrior bonus, you're looking at a +125% modifier for my warriors (+25% cities, +25% hills, +40% River, + 10% culture, +25% fortify) Or expose their stack on the flatland. But yeah, this throws a spanner in what I wanted to do WRT fast adepts/empyrean, which will now need to happen after at least a crafting->mining jaunt (no need to get axemen/swords if there is no bronze, we're screwed anyways then lol).

Here's the new tech plan:

Agriculture -> Calendar (Adopt Agrarianism) -> Mysticism (Adopt God King) -> Crafting -> Mining -> Bronze Working

I'll slip in exploration for Roads somewhere in there as well. After that's done, pick up Education for economy and then pick up KotE for adepts and then get back on the road to the Empyrean. If things are heating up at that point, I may have to go conquest to adopt military state and the ability to draft out swords instead.

I jammed out a quick e-mail to Tredje & Mardoc before running to a seminar about Visual Image Processing and how humans see the world; a lot of different things fall under the aegis of Electrical Engineering here...

Sareln Wrote:[COLOR="Magenta"]Greeting Tredje and Mardoc,

I'm a little pressed for time at the moment (played the turn about to head out the door for class) so I'll just note that we've made contact in game, and get you a more proper greeting later on in the day.

Ciao!

Got this reply

Servus Sareln,

Like you I haven't got much time to spare today, but I am pleased to see that our empires have established contact. A formal greeting will have to wait until tomorrow.

Wasn't Crafting -> Mining already contained in your very first tech plan before KotE? So that detour isn't that great of a loss after all smile

In case we don't have bronze, what about construction as a plan B? If Tredje indeed wants to attack us on our home turf, our catapults should certainly be able to land the first strike on any invading (bronze warrior/swords) stack.

First draft of the greeting to Tredje & Mardoc

Unsent Wrote:Hey Tredje, Mardoc,

Greetings, and well met. We appear to be quite close together. Have any of your other scouts met anyone? My own scouting is, not unexpectedly, a little bare at the moment as with raging barbs active I judged it prudent to keep a warrior at home - not exactly something you had to worry about neh?

With that said, as a show of good faith, I will openly share all other contacts I achieve and help facilitate contacts with other tribes. Good luck to your warrior on his explorations.

Sincerely,

Sareln

Given that we want to kiss Clan's behind (to a reasonable extent, of course) and that they could view a "fair" information sharing agreement as tilted to our side (due to their information bonus from the barbarian trait), I like the second part well - and if we're very lucky, they might still reciprocate voluntarily smile

However, in the first part, I'm uncertain to what extent we should reveal our general level of cautiousness - does the Clan really need to know that we leave one warrior at home, i.e. that we are rather conservative? If I was the player here, I'd just say that they were the first civ we met, instead.

The first part is my attempt to convey this message:

Quote:Don't try to choke/kill me with your aggressive warrior, it will not work.

Since I don't want to have to deal with them making the wrong choice in this regard, I'm giving them the free info on my second warrior to help them make the "right" (not choking me) choice. Is that a message worth sending I wonder? Having chosen aggressive clan, I think Tredje and Mardoc are looking for an easy victim, and I'd like to establish early on that I'm nowhere near that category.
