About warlords

Some new Info about the Warlord-expansion can be found here

In short: 4 new leaders for existing civs: Ramses II, Augustus Caesar, Stalin and Churchill

6 new Civs: Celts, Vikings, Korea, Ottomans, Carthage and our beloved Shaka of the (OMGWHTT)Zulu

the unique Units for those new Civs are the same as in Civ3 exept for Ottomans who have now the Janissaries.

And the great military leaders, which grant advantages in battle, return too. Hopefully better balanced than Armies in Civ 3

There will be 2 new traits, which are not announced yet, but probably scientific gives a comeback too.

I wonder what sort of bonus the Gr. Gens will grant the units they're 'attached' to and if they can be attached to a stack of units, too...speculation or hopes??

I'm happy with the addition of a few new leaders and civs. I didn't really care about which leaders or which civs, as long as it gives a 'fresh flavor' to the game.

I did hoped however that all those annoying threads and polls over at CFC about which civ to add (please add this, please add this leader) would fade away, but no... Now they are either complaining that their civ of choice isn't added or either they are debating which civs to put in the following expansion. sigh
Maybe I fuss needlessly...

The leaders/civs debate has always been the most popular one for the Civ games. It's been going on forever, and I expect it will go on forever too. Everyone has favorite leaders/civs that they would like to see included, and there's only so many spots that can be picked.

My favorite thread on this topic was a satirical one that someone opened DEMANDING a Trinidadian civ, and that the lack of one indicated that Firaxis was prejudiced against Trinidadians. Good stuff. lol

I'm waiting for the inevitable "it's been x days; where's teh new patch"

I always knew they had a thing for Tobago ~

IMHO it was not really necessary to add Stalin and Churchill as Russia and England already have two leaders. Personally I'd liked to see the Austrian-Hungarian Realm which was a quite central power in the 19th and beginning 20th century. But I can live with the ones the Firaxians picked for the expansion - and I'm really looking forward to the re-appearance of Shaka Zulu the Renowned lol .

I hope that the game designers will put things in a manner that leaves the vanilla Civ IV still playable - Warlords should be loadable like a Mod and leave the game unaltered as it is now.

I'm really looking forward to the expansion and will most likely buy it...

Come not to me again: but say to Athens,
Timon hath made his everlasting mansion
Upon the beached verge of the salt flood;
Who once a day with his embossed froth
The turbulent surge shall cover: thither come,
And let my grave-stone be your oracle.
Lips, let sour words go by and language end:
What is amiss plague and infection mend!
Graves only be men's works and death their gain!
Sun, hide thy beams! Timon hath done his reign.

True, but with the popularity of WW II mods and scenarios, it was inevitable.

I will buy it too, probably, but first I will see what the reviews or walktroughs say about the expansion.

There was some guy who posted an excellent walktrough of the vanilla Civ IV at CFC. Maybe he'll do it again. Who knows...

England and Russia definitely don't need more leaders, but Churchill and Stalin were the most widely asked for leaders in fan polls. Firaxis is simply giving the fans what they want, which is usually a good business practice.

You can always try taking the Warlords CD out of the disc drive and putting the Civ4 CD back in. smile

Umm, don't count on it. If Warlords is so different from 1.61 Civ4 as to require a Walkthrough, we'll be in serious trouble. lol

Ok, ok, point taken.
If anybody gets his hands on it, just tell us if it's worth buying. Thank you smile

@Berrie:

You're worrying over much. At CFC there will be loads of threads blaming Firaxis they just ripped off their customers another time with the expansion, that the game doesn't run and that it sucks anyway. So you will have loads of comments on it, I guess.

@Sulla:

It's fine with me if it works like that. As I said, as long as I can play both games, it's great...

Do you know - or do you guess - that any major changes will be made to some of the most discussed features (like the various diplomatic issues or the problem with the annoying culture flip after capturing a city a third party Civ has never controlled the whole game) in the expansion ? Or in other words: Will "Warlords" work as a big patch ? Or are that matters that will be taken on with Civ V ?

Regards,
