t145 - note from SL:
Quote:Hey Dreylin,
I have a feeling those galleons will be coming my way soon. I had to call the strike off since Krill has too many boats in the area.
SL
Guess I'll gift him the units in his territory and see if he needs them for defense.
Antioch: Drydock - Aqueduct
Gift 2xGrens, 2xRifles & 2xCannon to SL.
Hmm, looks like Krill has been investing in Privateers. Guess my existing tiny fleet's days are numbered.
I found Nicaea in the exposed NE more as a distraction than anything else!
Research still at 0% on SciMeth. I'll save up and go 100% on AssLine once Corp comes in from SL.
Quote:SL,
Well I just gifted you 2xGren, 2xRifle & 2xCannon incase you need them. If not, just send them right back.
I'm still saving gold; I considered starting on SciMeth, but then I realised that I'd be better waiting and going to Assembly Line once you'd finished Corp. I'll probably have spare gold for that run, so ask if you need some.
Dreylin.

t146 - Pirates on the Starboard bow, Jim!
Sounds like SL's going to be hit soon:
Quote:Hey Dreylin,
Corporation done when i pressed enter.
No sign of what krill is up to... Just hitting me with airships.
SL
Constantinople: Drydock - Ironclad
Yep, fleet's gone, but took a Privateer with it, & SL kept the troops, so I guess I'd better build a few more....
Shuffle some more troops about now the rest are healed.
And turn.

t147 - no word from SL with this turn, but there's Corporation!
Switch research to Assembly Line and turn it up to max ... 11t @ -59gpt. ~660g and I have 560g, so I will need a bit more to get the whole way.
Constantinople: Ironclad - Ironclad
Adrianople: Granary - Library
Antioch: Aquaduct - Ironclad
Angora: Market - Grenadier
Vote for myself as Pope.
Ah, SL has returned my troops ... and it looks like he's also released Ruff from the bonds of Vassalage. Guess that's after the conversation in the public thread about triggering the defensive pact.
So Krill has run in a Privateer and pillaged one of the Fishing Boats outside Constantinople. I send out my Ironclad and take it down with no issues ... allowing it to promote F1, N1 for enhanced movement. 2 more Privateers in sight, so I'll pop out the second Ironclad from Constantinople before replacing the Boats.
Oooo, Niels Bohr born in Constantinople at EoT.

Ironclads! I think I recall mention of them in another thread too but I forget who. Hey I never thought of putting Navigation on them, that's one way to make them less completely useless.

Even 3 movement isn't great, but they'll be able to sit in key positions (like on my Seafood) and cause problems for an attacking force. I'm 90% certain that there's no coastal link between my mainland and the island, so Krill won't be able to bring his own to an attack, whereas I could plod them across through my culture to cause him problems.
Of course he has Airships to cause problems of his own.

t148 - Pirates abound.
Constantinople: Ironclad - Ironclad
Thessalonica: Frigate - Ironclad
Antioch: Ironclad - Ironclad
Krill has posted his two Privateers offshore and set them to Blockade. I'm not entirely sure it has any effect since I'm in Mercantilism, so internal trade routes only!? Anyway, I'll arrange my Ironclads to try and ambush them.
Ah, it also stops me working the Coastal tiles within the blockade zone, so Constantinople can't access it's Seafood. Guess I might be a bit more agressive with my deployment....
Revolt to Theocracy for 2-promo troops.
Put GS on ice - no use for him right away.

Privateers can block intercontinental intra-civ trade. Not easy to do though since you need enough privs to block every single possible trade path, meaning a full ring around one of the continents. Usually it's only possible if the blockade victim doesn't have Astronomy so you only need to blockade a small area of coastal or ocean-in-culture tiles.

Sure, but someone deprived me of my overseas colonies!
Pretty sure he's targetting the Seafood at Constantinople, the Fiend!

There may still be some intrigue left in the game:
Ruff_Hi Wrote:Guys,
Been chatting to Darrell and I'm trying to talk him into racing Krill to space to win the game. Part of this is that we stop the war - everyone on board about that?
Once we are out of war, we can win via diplo! I am working on getting the AP religion into Darrell's city or cities then we can have a 'win diplomatic vote'.
Interest? If you are, don't mention the AP <grin> Ruff_Hi Wrote:follow up from Darrell ...
Darrell: If they want out I'll just tell Krill everyone is sick of the game and ask him if he wants to race me to space. Dreylin Wrote:Well I'm out of war right now, not sure whether we can get SL out at the same time now that Krill has smelled blood. But if we could, I'm up for jump-starting a sneak victory. Square_Leg Wrote:I agree with Dreylin,
If we can get out of this then great, I don't see what can be done to stop war now though...
And then this with the turn:
Square_Leg Wrote:Hey Dreylin,
I offered peace to Krill with a question of what it would take...
Also asked for Sci Meth from Darrell for 20t of fish and clam... Not sure what he will say but I tohught may as well...

t149 - Another quick turn, I expect.
Privateer noises still heard.
Constantinople: Ironclad - Ironclad
Antioch: Ironclad - Ironclad
Iconium: Forge - Drydock
OK scratch those two Ironclads, Privateers have been placed offshore now. Switch to Ships of the Line instead.
Weird, Adrianople mk2 has lost its trade routes ... stupid since its connected by road to the rest of the empire!?
Hmmmm, only a couple of turns left on the treaty with Krill; going to have to assess defenses again next turn.
