Going through the scouting motions. Moved a worker to a forest near Vinland to do a chop.
Great Lighthouse build by Sunrise/Rego.

Nothing new to add this turn. Once Pottery is in, we must get some cottages down to get more gnp. The goldmine will help as well, of course...

Took a somewhat lengthier look at the game. Things are really not *that* bad. The lack of good worker techs has definitely set us back, but we're certainly not out of the game, I think only really plako and luddite have particularly had exceptional openings. I really sort of wish we were Agg right now, because I think there's going to have to be some earlier warfare if we want to accomplish much.
Diplomatically, can we find a way to let plako let us settle to the NE? There's plenty of room on our branch toward the middle for good cities, and plako should be fearing the dogpile... perhaps he'll be willing to give a little to stay on our good site? The way the map is, Locke has pretty much locked us off that side of the peninsula, so the only realistic way for us to go is up.
Also, what's with his fortified scout? Between his posts in the tech thread and the scout there, he's a wee bit paranoid, yes? I really don't like our neighbors. I'd rather be between Adlain and Mackoti or something.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Played the next turn. We met Luddite, so we have contact with everyone.
Decided on another Axe in Greenland. We might want to consider disbanding all warriors to get more gold online, or do we want to keep them for HR?

I'd be inclined to keep them for the moment, I suspect we're going to be somewhat happiness limited, at least unless we decide to go heavy down the monk path.
Took advantage of making contact to get snarky in the public player thread.

Another turn. Decided to whip the settler in Vinland for 2 so we can settle horse city in 2T and block Locke there.
Then we need to settle east to block Plako and we're safe to expand.
Goldmine is online and working it puts us in the black and get's Pottery in 3T instead of 4T. GNP up from 10th to a solid 7th.
We're number 2 in soldier count with Plako being number 1, so that is good as well.
Helluland finished an Axe and I ordered a Workboat for more scouting.

Another quiet turn, just scouting.
5th city will be founded next turn!

I had a relatively lengthy reply here that got lost because I was at work at the time, but we need to lay cottages like they're going out of style when pottery comes in, and also a few extra workers would be handy. I heartily approve of the workboat build as well.
After the horse city, probably settle near the Wheat towards plako, followed by the furs city in the south for commerce + happy. After that we need to think about how much land we can grab in the north, or if we have to hunker down, backfill, and get ready to think about warring one of our neighbors. We should also try and get a city on the water adjoining plako so we have the opportunity to harass him that way should the need arise.
Sorry I've kind of left the turns to you. Just doesn't feel like the sort of game where 2 active turn-players works so well. I can take a bash at a new dotmap once we have an idea about what we can get away with re: settling towards the middle.
Also, Writing or Mysticism after Pottery?

Also, I threw a few signs up as potential backfill cities. Might be worth seeing if we can grab that branch of land south of the horses city before Locke.
Also had a very brief chat with mackoti, he wanted directions to Locke and Adlain, and I obliged.

I think Writing after Pottery for Library culture, since you hate monuments...
Locke send us an interesting message about a land split to our west, we need to look ingame if we can accept that but it seems in our advantage. Plako had an offer as well that we need to turn down politely... will look into that later today or tomorrow.
Things will get more interesting soon, so it will be good to have two pairs of hands and eyes for this game then...
