Long chat with Rego. Summary:
He's expressed interest in some kind of plan to take down plako, though at this point I think he's just saying things he thinks I want to hear - he's certainly not capable of doing anything anytime soon. Maybe later we'll be able to arrange something though.
Overall I've found him a to be rather cagey in diplomacy... not ideal ally material in my opinion. Not sure if he's just busy, but it seems a lot of the time he doesn't reciprocate with information he requests from me. I often have to ask about things multiple times before he tells me things when I've told him much more. Maybe it's just coincidence though.
He also seems to be trying to pretend he has little to no room for some reason, and that he got "screwed over" by the map. I don't really believe that for a second, and don't quite understand why he's trying to play the "screwed over" card when we both know that's unlikely to be true. Perhaps he's telling the truth, but I kind of doubt it.

me: Good morning
superdoubledan: hi
me: Presume you got my message from earlier?
superdoubledan: yes
thanks
i was watching march madness
me: If you have any scouts near Nakor/Plako, I can direct you to one of Luddite's Warriors around that area
Is luddite the last civ you have to meet?
superdoubledan: yes
so where is plako / nakor
me: We have 3 to go, apparently we'll meet all three fairly soon though
It's a race to see who can spam in the UN thread the fastest :P
superdoubledan: heh
me: Plako/Nakor are south of me
superdoubledan: so i know if i go south of me
there is a connection to warriorknight
me: Not sure if you already worked it out or heard it from anyone else, but the layout of civs on this map is as follows:
- SleepingMoogle - Mackoti - Luddite - Lord Parkin - Sunrise -
- Adlain - Locke - Nakor - Plako - WarriorKnight -
Darn, that doesn't display too well in the window
superdoubledan: right i think i knew that
me: Ok
superdoubledan: brb
me: So south of you is a connection to WarriorKnight, and he's obviously next door to plako, and then there's another connection all the way up the map from just west of plako up to me
Just got graphs on Plako this turn, by the way - not sure if you had them already. Scary lead in all the demographics, especially food and production
If he continues to build on that, seems he's likely to become a problem... guess we'll have to see.
superdoubledan: ok back
yes i'm putting EP on plako right now also
everything looks scary to me as we sit in 9th prod and 10th food ;-)
me: hehe
price for early GLH I guess
You'll catch up quickly though, especially in GNP
I notice you already have OB with Moogle :P
superdoubledan: yes
me: But even for us folks near the top in score, plako's still nearly doubling our food and production output
he's certainly got a huge lead on everyone else
superdoubledan: right
count me in for hte "reining him in" party
whenever that gets started
let's 5v1 him ;-)
a la pb2
me: hehe, would be interesting
Indeed. Although hopefully you guys won't end up like in PB2.
superdoubledan: well i think we've already exceeded expectations there
me: Looks like it's unlikely with the distances anyway
superdoubledan: yeah
me: Heh, yeah
superdoubledan: so are you in game or can get in game or have access to screenshots?
i was trying to figure out again wher e exactly our border was
me: Not in game at the moment
superdoubledan: don't you have some good screenshots in your lurker thread? What do you post in there man!?!?!
me: yeah, I have screenshots, just not of the eastern sea
I don't think it would help anyway, sounds like there's an island of sorts between us so we can't tell for sure how far away we are
superdoubledan: well what i was wondering is how many tiles down from the nrothern border your peak blocker tiles were
me: Best bet is to wait for one of us to complete a circuit, then we can count tiles relative to Moogle and work it out exactly
superdoubledan: are you close at all?
me: Um... will check...
I'm about a dozen turns away, I guess?
7 tiles from the top of the map
that's where the peak is
how about yours?
what's sunrise's address, by the way?
Just in case you aren't around for some reason... as unlikely as that seems :P
superdoubledan: his handle at gmail
me: cool
Kind of interested to see if we manage to beat plako to 6 cities. Rather doubt it, but it'd be funny if we managed it even just for a turn. :P
superdoubledan: we're goign to settle our 3rd soon!
me: I have no doubts that he'll outexpand us in the near future... he's got a strong GNP and insane food/production, so surely planning a big settling push soon
Woot! Congrats :D
I'd imagine you want to churn Settlers and Workers for quite a while to come
What turn are you set to found #3 on?
superdoubledan: it just flipped to 65 right?
me: yep
superdoubledan: i haven't played 65?
i think 66
me: yep
ah, ok
67 is when we're founding #6
superdoubledan: we're revolting to slavery this turn i think
me: ok
makes sense
me: don't think I heard back from you on how far from the top of the map your own peaks are? Mine's 7, if you missed it
I guess I talk too much in these chats and things get missed until I check back over them :P
superdoubledan: yeah
i was just noticing that
when i was posting our chat in the thread
we have a couple
the northernmost one is 10 and 11 tiles from the top
(we see 2 peaks in a row)
me: Hmm, ok
So potentially in range for a connection with ours, although we can't know how far E/W just yet
superdoubledan: right
with 2 tiles in between
seems like it would have to be a connection
where else would they go?
what would be the point of just having peak tiles that block off nothing?
me: lol, I guess
but then, doesn't seem much point in blocking off both sides of a passage with peaks, unless the intention was to prevent us from meeting early
in which case, why us and (apparently) no-one else? :P
superdoubledan: well i have at least 4 peak blocker areas
me: Hmm, ok
superdoubledan: who's west of you, luddite?
me: But you've still got land connections to your eastern and southern neighbours
superdoubledan: no
well, in a roundabout way
me: Yeah, Luddite's to my west
superdoubledan: i have to go 20 tiles south, east then back north to hit moogle
well, maybe not 20
but quite a bit
me: Hmm, ok
So you have a lot of land to yourself then :P
superdoubledan: i don't connect to him the way others seem to have neighbor connections
that's the thing
i don't
i mean it will some cities
fit some cities
but it's not like i have room for 30 cities over here
me: Right, but even 20-25 is pretty good :P
superdoubledan: eh
we'll see if there's THAT much
i think 2430 tiles total?
so 243 each would be fair?
me: I'm just teasing anyway, most people have a fair bit of room I think
Something like that
superdoubledan: yeah i don't know we have access to even that much
me: So expect a minimum of a dozen cities, probably more
superdoubledan: i kind of think we got screwed on the map
but whatevere
me: I kind of doubt that would happen...
Guess we'll have to compare when we can see more civs' land
superdoubledan: i guess
anyways would geography dictate that luddite could somehow also reach our lands
through another one of the "peak blocker" tiles?
or do you completely block him off from accessing us
me: Hmm... not sure what you mean
superdoubledan: do you have a connection straight south of you?
me: I've explored all the way to the top of the map, the peak 7 tiles down is the only one
more or less
superdoubledan: okay
what's south east of you?
me: sea...
superdoubledan: how far south have you explored?
me: everything east is sea :P
down to plako
no connections east
superdoubledan: (we can share screenshots if we want)
me: yeah, though I'm more comfortable describing things for now
plus it's easier :P
superdoubledan: ok
that's fine
me: basically it seems the land's shaped like a U between us, with me on the top left and you on the top right, and plako down the bottom
literally seems the only (land) connection E-W around our longitude is through plako
at least, the only accessible one
superdoubledan: hmm
me: guess we'll both find out more once we get boats out
superdoubledan: we're exploring south but haven't found plako or any connection to the west
but we're still exploring
me: ok
well keep us informed anyway... we'll let you know if we figure out anything more of interest
superdoubledan: will do
me: I still reckon 15-20 tiles is a reasonable estimate for the distance between our capitals, based on everyone else I've found. Land cuts off just a couple of tiles east of my capital
Guess that could be adjusted +/-3 depending on how you moved your Settler
so if you can see 5 tiles west of your original start, that suggests a 5-10 tile sea... if you can see 10 tiles west of your original start, that suggests a sea of only a few tiles
not 100% sure if there's a coastal connection or not
superdoubledan: hi
