Lets see our choices were

Bandit - melee only horrible role play *ow well*
fugative - melee so so range ok role play even worse
dwarf scout - melee eh range ok roleplay ok
Mage - melee bad range Kicks ass role play this one works.

Benifts
Bandit - HUGE
Fugative - tiny
dwarf - decent
mage - nonexistant.

So I chose to give it to a bandit who will become a highway man at some point. Sorry we can't realy role play that but having a kick but unit is worth it.

To be quite honest, I found that thing kinda meh because the ability to summon lightning is not magical and therefore is underwhelming when besieging.

So summoning bolts of lighting is not magical but throwing thorns is?(the druids ranged attack is mage and is throns or a vine of ivy.

I know you said that summoning lighting wasn't magic and I was pointing out that less magical skills were classified as magic in the game.

lol I thought thorns was a magic spell.

I could play the save but I'm still wondering about bruindane? I didn't play it yesterday to give him another day, but if he doesn't post in the next 6 hours I'll play the save and move the game ahead.

Well an attack has to be tagged as 'magical', there's no inherent connection to the type of attack or the name. Presumably the designers of the campaign forgot to add it, or decided not to for some reason. In my experience the 'magical' tag tends to be given only to actual mages. So the ability of ghosts to hurt others by wailing or drakes to breathe flames doesn't count as magical at all.

Following this SG with interest, I tended to get stuck on the current mission because it is so prolonged and dull. As Sullla noted earlier in the thread, cave levels really tend to bring out the same congestion issues as Civ 5 has.
