haha i'll do my best~
one modification though. Assuming his capital BFC looks the same as mine, the hill will stop me from hitting in just 1 turn. In that case, I'm probably better off building just 1 galley, and using the extra hammers for more chariots/HAs, which could attack by land.

Does anyone know what the odds are for killing a spear with 3 chariots?

In the Pitboss 3 game, I think it took Portugal 6 Chariots to take out one Roman spear...

Yes, I remember that! Good times...
Foritify bonus, hill, cultural defence, and promotions all make a difference, as well. They might have good odds on a flat tile, but you are talking about going into a city right?
Atlas is an experienced MP player but despite the thread title I haven't seen too much input from him.

Atlas said he hasn't been able to get Civ 4 to work on his computer, so I haven't heard anything from him in ages. It's just me by my lonesome now, so I really appreciate any lurker comments.
I did some sim tests, and it seems like even without any bonuses, the chariots really struggle to win against spears. I tried 30 chariots against 10 spears, reloaded about 5 times (with new random seed) and the chariots usually didn't kill any spears. So, I'm going to have to rethink the plan.

Hah, that was definitely one of the more humorous moments of the opening turns. It should be noted though that the spear in question was an aggressive spear, so that helped a bit.

Nothing personal at all against Atlas1998, but I'm pretty sure he is different than the Atlas that you are thinking of.

Here's what my scout has seen inside his land. I saw an axe on the south shore too, maybe the same one he had last turn in lupu. Also I notice he has a settler there, probably heading towards the south.
I've settled a new city, next to the horses.

mackoti founded a new city, in the middle of the isthmus. All I can see is that one square. Does that mean that he founded it in the middle (landlocked)?
demographics are finally starting to look good!

I'm pretty sure you only see cultural borders in fogged tiles if they're next to visible tiles. Since the forest 1S1SW of the whales is not Dutch, I'd assume that you're looking at a corner of the initial 3x3 ring.
