Doviello aren't a long term threat. Not really. Without any economic traits, missing out on libraries and locked into an early war that he won't win easily Mist will 100% never come anywhere near the tech leaders in this game. And although he has two pretty good war traits, he doesn't have any particularly deadly unique units.
The Luchuirp on the other hand... Long term, even with an early war as a set back, we can develop into a deadly little civ. We've got the best economic trait in the game. The golden hammers to help us with production and lightbulbing. And out golems are strong late game units.
So supporting Mist is an easy ask for him. He wants this conflict going on for as long as possible so that both of his neighbours are occupied while his slow to mature elves keep growing. He wants the Doviello to have the upper hand, but not win too easily, because they are the lesser threat long term.
All this is just from a game play perspective, but I haven't seen much of the diplomacy aside from the Mist declarations.
It might be time to discuss terms with Mist to get Barnaxus back. Because at the moment it looks like both of you are running very heavily at the bottom the pack.
