[SPOILERS] Bismark of Sumeria (luddite + Atlas1998)

What outcomes would you consider to be "successful"?

What outcomes do you consider to be the most likely?

Has Parkin provided any useful intel so far?

Oh this is interesting. Mackoti upgrades his warrior in lupu into another axeman. He has not whipped the city, yet. It's still at size 4, so it can whip just once before I attack it. And apparently he deleted the warrior which was scouting my land- a good idea, since that would have been just free XP for me.

My main goal is to raze Lupu, and conquer his other eastern cities, securing all the land for myself. I'd consider that a success, and I'm pretty optimistic right now, given that I have more than double his power.

If I do that quickly, and Mackoti still won't give up, then I'll consider attacking the capital. In that case I could either tach HBR, or go for the amphibious option. Teching construction would make defense easy, on this narrow land.

Also, I'm still hoping (maybe I'm crazy) to tech literature, and put the great library in the dutch city with corn/pigs. That would give me a nice cultural expansion, too.

So far LP has not given me any useful info. He moved his warrior into Uruk for some stupid reason, which is a totally useless position.

Mackoti's GNP shot up a few turns ago. Maybe he was trying to tech HBR or construction. Too late for that now. HBR seems like a bad choice against vultures, anyway.

This might be a long shot, but I thought it was worth a try with SleepingMoogle.
Quote:Hi again,

I'm planning to declare war on Mackoti next turn. The map basically forces us into conflict- there's no way I can claim enough land to keep up with Parkin, without warring with Mackoti. Especially after he broke an NAP with me.

I couldn't help but notice that his only source of copper is right on the border with you, next to the city of Dudu Georgescu. It's a hill city, but it's weakly defended, probably just a warrior. You could take it very easily, giving you a very nice city to your east. With his copper gone, he'd have no chance of taking it back.

Anyway, I just wanted to bring up that possibility in case you wanted to help out, and help yourself to a nice city as well.

His response. About what I expected.
Quote:Greetings luddite,

Given that it Mackoti's sole source of Copper, you raise an interesting point. For now though, I am unfortunately committed to a NAP with him, and would probably not be able to help out with the war for the foreseeable future.

Still, I am keeping all options on the table for now. Perhaps the impending war will enable me to leverage Mackoti into canceling the agreement; I'll have a look at whether or not that is workable. But for now, I'll keep quiet at least until you declare to avoid spoiling the surprise. ;-)

Why didn't you declare war on this turn? This would have locked you in whatever part you want to be in....

You have to move during the first 6 hours the turn BEFORE you declare war. If I wanted to declare war this turn, I would have had the same problem last turn, and my army would have been visible longer.

I think I'm attacking at a good time window. If you attack too early, the opportunity cost from not building settlers is huge, and they can defend really well by slaving just 1 or 2 units in any city you try to attack. But if you attack too late, catapults give the defender a crushing advantage. Right now I've got enough units to overcome slavery, and all the best city spots have already been settled. But it should be a long time before Mackoti gets any catapults.

If he does get catapults, then i guess we'll see how vultures do vs. catapults. Vultures are a weird unit, and I've never used them in a MP war before. They feel like a cross between an axeman and a swordsman.

My best guess right now is that Mackoti has 2 chariots hiding right now. He can also whip a spear, and maybe finish another axe with the overflow. Assuming that both his chariots both win, taking out 1 chariot and 1 vulture, that would still leave me with 5 vultures (2 combat 1, 1 city raider) and 1 chariot against 3 axes and 1 spear. In my sims, I won that 10 out of 10 times. If one of his chariots loses (which is more likely) then my odds get even better. If he somehow has another chariot or axe, then things are a lot more difficult but I'm still in decent shape, with my cleanup crew coming in two turns later (and blocking reinforcements from the south). If he somehow pulls together a lot more units (which should be impossible, given his graph), then I can shift targets towards the south. The only question is- is it better to attack first with my unpromoted vultures, or my promoted ones? That's a rather difficult question, and I'm afraid I don't know the answer.

I think they're rethinking their position smile
Quote:Hi Luddite,

I assume that you know from the begining that this is an unacceptable demand, no ? wink
I didn't arrive home yet - did you already declare war ?

Anyway ... if this will not be a short war ... it will secure for both of our teams few bottom places in this game ... frown

Best regards ( but not luck ! smile ),

Ioan

Quote:haha... I didn't really expect you to accept. I know it's a tough demand. BUT i think it's a reasonable offer, given the circumstances. Sure you agree that you're in a bad position right now?

According to the game rules I can't declare war until next turn. Then I'll take the first half of the turn, and you guys take the second.

If you want to avoid war, what would you offer me? Remember that I have a large army right next to your borders, and you have nothing to defend with. I can easily take the cities that I asked for.

Best regards from me as well

Ioan seems to be much better at English than Mackoti, so it's possible I might be able to work something out with him. Not counting on it, though.

Quote:Hi Luddite,

OK - in few hours I'll log-in to check the situation too ( it was a busy day for me but ... this is a special situation ).
Will disscus any possible treaty after. wink

Best regards,

Ioan
