Problem is that I'm not WAY behind, but behind enough so I would need runes to make it faster I think.

Yeah, I haven't been able to drop below 4:07. I hope uberfish has a cool strategy that I'm just not seeing. I don't want to spend 3000IP (7000?) on runes to drop a little more time.

Yes, I didn't really think that through. It would be a little silly if it comes down to having to buy some super expensive runes to be able to win.
I will keep that in mind if we should do some future challenges though...

make challenges runeless so its more balanced? so when do you stop only champs that are free this week? no summoners?

The inbalance realy will be there no matter what you do. Some people play jungle or lane and know tricks that would allow them a slightly faster time so no restrictions makes little difference overall compared to restrictions that try to balance out player.

The 'fair' option is to have a runeless challenge using the champs that are free for a week and no using mastery points. That really tests the bounds of player mechanics and path choices. The tradeoff, of course, is that the type of challenge can be pretty restricted.

Fastest to level 6 is kind of boring because the champ clearly has to be Zilean and Zilean can't jungle, so it's really an issue of how fast can you kill creeps in lane.
